Howdy ladies!
Former Dallas gal here (then Aggie down in College Station, then Austinite just because it was a fun place to live). Moved to Colorado ages ago.
I plan to bring a 4 yr old and a 2 yr old on the ever-so-fun car trip from Denver to Dallas in a few days.
This will be our first looooong car trip.
We plan to get a hotel in Amarillo but I'm in search of something fun and entertaining for the kids to do about 4 hours outside of Dallas (in the direction of Amarillo) to help break up the drive time.
Any suggestions?
TIA!!!
Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
Re: Need DFW travel help....
Well, there's not much! Just a bunch of small towns.
The only thing I can think of is the Medicine Mound Depot restaurant in Quanah, TX. It's on 287 about 3 hours, 45 minutes north of DFW. I haven't been there in years, but I remember the food being very good (fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans). Peanut shells on the floor, train track that goes around the ceiling of the entire restaurant (the kids would like that!) and I think it's an old converted rail car maybe?
Here's one post about it:

If you wanted a day activity - there is a small water park in Wichita Falls (2 hours north of DFW).
Castaway Cove
And while you're in Amarillo - the cadillac ranch
The Big Texan (unless stuffed bears and other animals are too scary for your little ones).
Oh - and good luck!
We're actually road tripping from DFW to Denver in July (no kids)!
Come on over to the Denver board if you need any help trip planning.
The ladies are AWESOME and do a great job pointing visitors to fun places to eat and things to do.
Thanks for your tips!
And I must say.... you'll like the weather much better out here in July than I will in June!

Thanks! Denver is actually just a half way stop for us on our way to Yellowstone. We're staying two nights camping near Red Rocks for two shows! And you're right - I'm definitely looking forward to the weather!
But I recently stayed in Denver and had a great time. Have you been to Root Down? Highly recommended!
