IPhone 4 Question

I'm waiting to get att servie and an Iphone when the 4th is released this month. Im confused about the data plans that will be used then. What is the best way to determine which data plan you need. I would have preferred the unlimited but Im unsure if I even use enough to have needed it. Thanks!

Re: IPhone 4 Question

  • Unlimited data is no longer an option for new service. You have the option of the $15 200MB plan or the $25 2GB plan. You might be able to check your usage through your current wireless provider (although with an iPhone your usage will probably increase over what you are currently using). There are also descriptions on att.com on how many emails/photos/videos you can send and receive within the limits of each plan.
  • 98% of people use less than 2GB.  You can change your plan whenever without a fee or contract extension...so you could always start at 200MB and keep an eye on it (they will send you a text warning when you are approaching your limit) and then you can up to 2GB.  Or, start at 2GB and if you are using less than 200MB, lower.

FWIW, I've had my iPhone 3GS since the end of August and haven't even used up 4 GB yet.

  • I would be considered a "heavy" iPhone user (although my usage has gone down since I got an iPad) and my peak usage was less than 800 MB - I average about 400 a month.
