FEMA is definitely buying our house!!!!!
I came home yesterday to the greatest phone message in the world. It was from the Allenstown Chief of Police saying that the Town finally recived written confirmation from FEMA for the buyout, they approved the full sum of the grant, and our house was on the list, along with 15 other houses in our neighborhood and the neighborhood behind ours on the other side of the river. They will buy our house for the full value of what it would have appraised for before the floods. We are going to a meeting next week to hear more news, but the police cheif said they will start to buy and demolish houses in July (2009). It's been two and half years since the Mother's Day Flood and a year in a half since the Patriots Day Flood and this nightmare is finally over! I can't bealive it!
This will also help the people who decided to stay. If it does flood again (we joke that it never flood again now because we went through all this) the water will now have more places to go with empty parcels here and there, and may minimize damage to existing homeowners. Once FEMA buys the houses/parcels nobody can ever build anything there again, it becomes open space.
Re: FEMA is definitely buying our house!!!!!
Woo hoo! Such good news!
PS - Did you see my response to your page the other day? I didn't see it until the weekend was over.
How are you feeling?
