Re: Thirsty Thursday Randoms
Well, now H called our accountant this afternoon and he said we do qualify. This is exhausting.
Darn, I'm kind of bummed we missed them.
The girls would be in heaven.
I'll let you know the next time she brings a random farm animal home with her. ;-)
LOL!
Ya, I think so too. I really did research alternate destinations, and California is high on the list of alternatives, but I think Arizona best matches our (extremely specific and obnoxious) requirements for this vacation.
Kasa, I have to say that I think you work harder at choosing vacation destinations than anyone else I know.
I do hope you have a good time, no matter where you choose.
One more suggestion, have you thought about a Mediterranean cruise? I know you talked about Greece, but were concerned about logistics of moving about in Europe. If it can be done within your budget, it would probably meet all of your requirements and be a very stress-free vacation for you and B.
It has never been nearly this hard before! It's true, we always do quite a bit of research before deciding on a destination, but it's been ridiculous this year. We've never had nearly as difficult a time as we are this year. Here are the two big factors causing me headaches:
a) Both my husband and I have a vision about this vacation (destination type, activities, etc.) and those visions are very different from one another (like polar opposite), so it's been challenging trying to reconcile those visions and find locations that we will both enjoy.
b) All of our top destination ideas (California, Hawaii, Arizona, Greece) involve multiple locations which makes researching hotels and transportation between those locations more confusing.
I usually love vacation planning, but at this point I'm on the verge of hiring a TA because I'm totally over it right now.
I'm sooooo going to need a vacation after I'm done planning my vacation.
Stick a fork in it, you're DONE!
Seriously, sit him down tonight and tell him exactly that. And then start booking hotels.
Confession: He decided a month ago that we're going to Arizona this year, and then I started hemming and hawing and researching other options.
I probably carry more of the blame for making this process more difficult than it should be. But I want it to be awesome because it's for our five year anniversary. And I'm also obsessed about choosing the right destination because twice in the past we've chosen the wrong destinations and the vacations ended up being a flop (Jamaica sucked for me and San Antonio sucked for him). So I'm hyper-sensitive to finding the right place.
I probably sound like a total weirdo, don't I?
Kasa, you don't sound like a weirdo, but you're definitely putting too much pressure on yourself about this trip. I tend to do the same thing. Last year was our five year and I wanted it to uber-special because of the milestone number. Some aspects of the trip were awesome, some were not. In some ways, our long weekend in Gatlinburg this year was better overall.
In some ways, I think trips are what you make of them and in other ways, I think there is some general luckiness/unluckiness involved (like rain on your honeymoon).
The more you try to build the trip up, the more likely you are to be disappointed, I think. Like Chymes said, pick AZ, rent a convertible and be done!
Thanks, Suze. You are very wise. :-)
We hope to rent a Jeep Wrangler if we go to Arizona.
I don't think you're a weirdo, but I DO want to point out that even though you are hemming and hawing about it, you just admitted to us that AZ fits what you're both looking for. In this case, I think words are speaking louder than actions.
My other thought, because this is what I always worry about, is money. The longer you wait, the more likely it is that prices will go up. And you don't want that to happen!
Even better. I told L that we are renting a wrangler whenever we go back to Hawaii.
