Neighborhoods in Charlotte
Hi All,
I recently accepted a job in Charlotte, NC and am relocating from Western New York. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions of good neighborhoods, or good streets within neighborhoods where I should focus my apartment hunting.
Thanks!
Katie
Re: Neighborhoods in Charlotte
where is your new job located? charlotte has some messy traffic so you'll want to take location into consideration.
uptown Charlotte is really nice. you might like it up there. a lot of my friends do. lots of condos, townhouses and apartments for rent up that way. neighborhoods close by that you should look at - South End, Dilworth, Elizabeth, Myers Park, South Park, Plaza Midwood, Cotswold. These are all small pockets of neighborhoods and each offers its own flavor.
Without knowing more about your price range, what your family situation is like, etc it's tough to give advice, but two websites that were really helpful for us when we were house hunting are
www.allentate.com- one of the bigger real estate companies in the area. even if you aren't using one of their realtors, IMO their database of homes for sale was the most comprehensive and easiest to navigate, even compared to realtor.com, etc.
www.city-data.com/forum- this is a great site for anecdotal information from real people. You select your state and area, and it's a posting board just like the nest. It's really searchable, and once you narrow it down to neighborhoods, this is a great resource to research the area and hear from real people who live there. A note: the folks on this board were EXTREMELY helpful when we moved about 2 years ago, but they have gotten a little "sensitive" I would say, because of the huge number of people who were posting about moving to CLT to try to find a job (unemployment has been a problem for us, like most big cities right now.) If you come right in with the info that you are relocating with a job, they will be great!! :-)
I agree with Katie - those are all great neighborhoods. I lived in an apartment (Camden Dilworth) when I first moved here, and now we just sold our house and are temporarily living in an apartment in the South End. There are a ton of new apartment buildings in the South End - check out the Ashton, the Circle, the Millenium, there's also a Camden South End, and the Spectrum. We also looked Uptown a bit - we really liked the Catalyst building uptown, but it wasn't as convenient for our dog walker, so we went with the South End. Both South End and Dilworth are very walkable neighborhoods. The South End has the advantage of being right by the metro - you can take the blue line right into uptown. I'm sure the other neighborhoods have good options, I'm just not familiar with them. Good luck!
Thanks Ladies for all the advice. I am strongly considering the South End. I have been looking at a lot of stuff on craiglist, and many of them say "near South End". Would it be possible for someone to tell me the streets that kind of act as the boundaries of South End.
Thanks!
Katie
