Road Trip, Passing through Kentucky.

Hi:  I am doing a short road trip and will be driving through the very south western part of Kentucky towards Illinois on I-24 W.   We are just driving through, but we want to visit some touristy ?road trippy? stuff (giant balls of string, chickens who play tic tac toe?.) any one know any funny little stops we could make as we go through Kentucky?

Re: Road Trip, Passing through Kentucky.

  • I grew up in that part of KY and there?s no shortage of stuff to do.  I'm not sure how long you'll be there, but here are a few ideas:

    • Stop at KY Dam, take a look at the turbine in the parking lot (climb on it or something).  Watch a boat lock through the dam from the lake to the river.
    • Light House Landing ? walk out on the jetty ? The Grand Rivers Jetty was named one of the top 50 Romantic Spots in the Country by Cosmopolitan Magazine on 2006.
    •  Patti?s Restaurant in Grand Rivers ? walk around the town, or the animal pens.  The food at Patti's is amazing.  They are famous for the 2" pork chop and boatsinker pies. http://www.grandrivers.org/attractions/main.htm
    •  LBL (Land Between the Lakes) ? take a drive on the Elk and Bison prairie.  Also in LBL - The Homeplace, The Nature Station,Bike Trails  http://www.lbl.org/
    • Walk around downtown Paducah ? lots of art stuff.  Murals on the flood walls, trains, museums, etc.
    • Local BBQ is great too!  You should stop by Starnes or Kountry Kastle in Paducah.  They are both dives, but they are delicious!
