Decoration ideas besides balloons?

We are having a birthday party in our backyard for DD.  I am looking for ideas for decorations besides balloons.  Trying to keep the cost down, but still look festive.  There is no theme for teh party, DD just wants purple and pink.

Any ideas for decorations?  thanks!

Re: Decoration ideas besides balloons?

  • The Sams club near my house has these new "festive" pastic cups. In one bag comes a sleeve with hot pink, lime green, blue and yellow cups. I got them for a party at my house two weeks ago and then I bought the same color table clothes and plates. The colors really pop and are fun. Maybe you could do something in bright fun colors?

ETA: I clearly missed the part about pink and purple but you could still use the same ideas. Do all the supplies in those colors.

  • alternate colors with: plastic table cloths, plastic plates, plastic utensils, plastic cups, etc.

you can hang pink & purple streamers

another idea is to serve cupcakes instead of cake and do some pink cupcakes and some purple!

  • Just plain old curling ribbon can look really cool. You could put together strands of pink and purple that are nice and long so they have soft, flowing curls to them. If you combine that with some crepe paper it makes a nice contrast between the thin ribbon and thick crepe paper.
  • What about finding some pink and purple swirly lollipops and sticking those in mason jars or glass vases? They could double as favors. Or maybe some potted gerbera daises or mini roses from the grocery store.
  • Martha Stewart Tissue Pom Poms in different sizes & different shades of pink & purple.  Cheap & different from the norm and very cute.
  • What about tissue paper pom poms? They are super cheep, cute and you can make them any color you choose. Check out Martha Stewart for directions.
  • What about some pink or purple vases and then put the other color of flowers in them? You can buy vases at Hobby Lobby or Michaels for pretty cheap.

If you can't find those color vases, buy clear ones and put a pink or purple ribbon around it. Buy some less expensive flowers. That would look very neat!

  • streamers always add color for super cheap. Tables cloths. Alternating colored cups. Fake flowers in vases. ?If you're crafty, you can make paper flowers/ butterflies and affix to the walls with tape (borrowing from my preschool days!) And, can I say, I am SO happy to see someone throwing a child's party with a simple lively colors and not a crazy multi-thousand dollar theme?

  • cheap plastic table clothes cut in strips and wrapped around trees or fence posts, alternate colors

just curious, why besides baloons? my aunts dog goes crazy if they bring latex baloons in the house. hes kinda nuts. mylar is fine though which is funny!
