Chicago hotel recommendations?

Hi there! I'm a DC nestie who will be coming to Chicago for the first time this summer :-) (omg, I'm so excited, I've wanted to come for a visit for years and years!!)

We are going to a baseball game at Wrigley Field--we're taking FIL there for his 70th birthday. The ILs suggested staying near the stadium (if that's possible) because we'll have our son with us and if he gets fussy at the game it would be nice to be able to get back to the hotel quickly. But looking at the map, it seems like if we stay out there, it's pretty far from downtown Chicago.

The main point of the trip is to take FIL to a baseball game, but we still want to see the city, so based on that info can anyone recommend a hotel? (And it would be great if it has suites!)

Re: Chicago hotel recommendations?

  • There is the Best Western and the Majestic.  There is also a hotel near the Belmont El stop (literally next to it).  The trip to down town is a total of 20- 30 minutes to the downtown.  You can take the train or the bus.  Where do you think most of your time will be spent?
  • There really aren't many hotels located close to Wrigley field.  I would suggest staying downtown.  Wrigley field is right off of the red line el stop, so any hotel downtown near a redline stop would be easy transportation-wise.

  • There aren't any nice places up by Wrigley... If cost isn't an issue, I would stay at the Penninsula hands down.  I don't know how old your son is, but they are great with babies.  The Four Seasons is also fantastic with families.  It's a quick train right up to Wrigley - you can just take the red line right up to Addison from the Chicago stop.  All of these places are very central to see the rest of the city.  You are right on Mich Ave for shopping and close to Millenium Park, etc.
