Staying in San Diego - 2 nights/beginning of vacation

Hello,

I live in NYC and will be doing a drive up the coast in August with my husband... we are going to fly into SD and fly out of SF (a week total). We want to stay in La Jolla for the first 2 nights and check out Mission Beach. Does anyone have recc's of where exactly to stay? We're trying to stay budget conscious since it'll be a week trip or driving/hotel's.

We'll also be going to LA (have friends in Venice and Santa Monica as well), San Fran (wine country, laguna beach?). Any hotel suggestions for these places as well would be great!

Thanks!!

  • Go on the travel board and page blue eyed wifey (I think that is her name) She has great hotel recommendations up and down the coast!
  • No suggestions, just wanted to say that Laguna Beach is in Orange County... no where near San Fran. :)

  • La Jolla's usually pricey, especially near the beach.  I would recommend checking out places near Mission Beach or Pacific Beach.  PB is less that 5 miles from La Jolla so you could still hang out there during the day.  Crystal Pier in PB has its hotel rooms on a pier right over the water- that might be fun!  (They say you have to book way in advance but there's always cancellations if you keep checking back)  If you're heart is set on La Jolla, go for it, but if not, don't rule out our other beach towns- you will still be near everything you want to see but might save a few dollars :)  Have an awesome trip!  If you have any other San Diego questions, let me know.
