digging squirrels

The little bastardos keep leaving holes in my garden.  the bury penuts int eh shell for a later dat, so they will be back to dig it up again.

How can I repel them without hurting them?

  • I'm not sure either...I've seen them bury their treats in my yard (thought it was cute) but then they dug up my marigolds and it wasn't cute anymore.  I'd love to know the answer to this also! :)

  • my MIL suggested sprinkling peppermint oil around the plants. I haven't actually tried this yet, but i might soon. squirrels are so destructive.
  • I've read that you can place chicken wire in your garden (covered with a top layer of soil) to prevent squirrels from digging up bulbs, etc.  But that seemed like a lot of work to me, so I've never tried it.  I just ineffectually shake my fists at them...  :)
  • we sprinkle cayenne pepper in our garden and it seems to help
