Let's try this...1st B-day party

What would you serve for a 1 year old party @ 11:30am- 1pm? I am doing a baseball theme party, but I don't want to do hot dogs just because I think they are disgusting or should I get over it and that can be my filler food. I was thinking about making a lot of snack type foods. Fruit on a stick with fruit dip...and that is about as far as I have got. What is a good filler food since it is lunch time?

I might have mentioned before, but this is my first time hosting a party and I want it to be perfect. That is the perfectionist in me.

Re: Let's try this...1st B-day party

  • we're doing a cookie monster theme butwill be a barbecue. so we're grilling burgers, hotdogs, chicken & we're roastin a pig.  1st bdays are mostly for adults since the kid doesn't know whats going on anyway & we wont even be eating that food.
  • Since its a baseball theme you should definitely have hot dogs!! So, yes, I would get over it Wink
What about a gourmet hot dog like Hebrew Nationals? Costco sells them. One thing I have done for 1st bday's is Pulled Pork on Silver Dollar Rolls....always a huge hit.

    This baseball party is adorable.
    Have fun planning!!
Oh...have your friends take lots of pictures since you will be running around at the party.

  • We had a baseball theme for ds's 1st bday too and it was a "hit".  Stick out tongue

    We had:

    hotdogs and brats

    nacho bar

    popcorn

    Cracker Jack

    beer & soda

    frozen lemonade

    soft pretzels

I had a hard time serving hotdogs too but people do enjoy them.

  • What about nachos, pretzles, brats or Italian Sausage, or burgers?

  • Well, from one perfectionist to another, if it's your first time ever hosting, get over thinking it's going to be perfect lol!  It's going to be far from it.  Go ahead and accept that and you'll have lots more fun and be a much better hostess if you're not obsessing over minutiae :)  There's nothing that kills a party faster than a stressed out hostess.

I second Hebrew National.  They have no fillers, by-products, artificial colors or flavors.  They're just all beef.  I like the menu above with crackerjack, nachos, etc.

  • I'm not a hot dog fan either, but hebrew national hotdogs are very good!

My kid's 1st birthday is in the middle of July. I'm going the easy way out and doing hot dogs and hamburgers. One of our local restaurants serves hot dogs with blue cheese coleslaw and a sweet potato mustard. It's amazing and we are going to recreate them at our house (we've done it multiple times and it's super easy).

  • i think hot dogs are a MUST for a baseball theme! you dont have to think of hotdogs as being disgusting, serve brats or other gourmetish dogs. you can set up a hotdog bar to make it more fancy. like others said, different toppings etc. i would even get the little paper "boats" they would come in at a stadium.

also dont worry too much about it being perfect. you want it to be special because its your first party, just think of how fancy other parties in your circles are and step it up just a bit to make it feel like youve done more than usual.

also not food related, you will probably be to busy to take lots of pics. might ask someone to be sure to take some pics, i usually find a tween i trust to take pics on my digital camera. older kids love to take pics and theyre closer to the height of smaller kids so the pics can actually turn out better. also i have seen many pics taken by my neices and nephews that an adult couldnt have taken. (like jumping on the bed, finger in the cake frosting, kids coloring all over their skin etc)

  • Get kosher dogs, they're much better then the cheap ones. First off, they're beef! Also, I wouldn't do just snack foods. That's lunch time and people will be hungry.

I personally would do hotdogs wrapped up in foil paper like at the stadium, rent a popcorn machine, maybe have nachos with cheese sauce? Peanuts and Cracker Jacks are a must. Ooo this sounds fun, can I come help? :)

We had a giant cookout for our daughter's 1st birthday. Burgers and Hot Dogs {hebrew national!}, I made a couple of dips to serve with crackers and chips, we had potato salad and slaw and pasta salad for the sides plus beer, wine, margaritas and TONS of sweets. I'm still tired from all the cooking I think.

    Good Luck!

    That sounds so yummy!

I also think watermelon is a great thing to serve at a summer party. It's always festive!

  • Agree with the others- you gotta do hot dogs! I hate them too... but it's a baseball theme!

I did a baseball theme for DS's 2nd bday. We also had popcorn and cracker jacks in keeping with the theme snacks. I think I still have pics in my bio. It was really cute and a lot of fun!
