Teacher Retirement Party Help

Anybody have any ideas for a retirement party. We have the restaurant already but wanted to do some kind of activity or read a poem. Going blank on this. Any suggestions???

Re: Teacher Retirement Party Help

  • As a guest book/giant card from the group, you could get a small chalkboard. Rather than having everyone write on it with chalk, give them white paint pens (will look like chalk on the board).

  • At my moms retirement party they played that song "Take This Job and Shove It" and made her and her friend (who also had retired, it was a joint party) dance in the middle of the dance floor. It was cute and they were both laughing hysterically.

  • Most of the teacher retirement parties that I have been to have had a mc of sorts. This person has organized other people to get up and tell a memorable/funny moment.  This can be fellow students, past principals, etc, etc.  I would have a few people lined up, but tell people in the begining that others can get up and say something as well.  With a room full of teachers, some will take you up on this offer.

Another thing that is really popular these days is to collect stories, poems, drawings, etc from previous students, coworkers, principals and make a book out of all of that to present to the retiree.

I've also seen where they have arranged for a suprise guest to come (the retiree doesn't know that the person is coming, but they do know that the party will happen).  In one case this was a childhood friend, in another case it was a past co-worker.

The last thing that I've seen alot of is more of a "gift".  They theme it after what the person will be doing post-retirement. One had the person get "dressed up" another just gave the items to the retiree. It is more of a funny type thing with gag items.

  • As a teacher, the most important accolades I get come from my students.  If you have the time, I think it would be nice to get some of his/her past/present students to write what they liked about him/her and put it in a scrapbook.
