Another Hydrangea question...

Ok, so I know I was told not to move the hydranges to a shadier place until they are dormant...but I'm just so worried that being in the sun most of the day will kill them all by itself! They honestly haven't grown at all since I planted them a month ago (I actually think they are scrawnier)...would it definitely kill them if I transplanted them to a shadier spot now?

Re: Another Hydrangea question...

  • I, personally, would take the chance and move them.  After a month, I doubt they're very well established so I think they would be better off with them in a shadier spot.  You run the risk of them dying either way.  I've moved plants in the summer and as long as they're watered very well, I haven't had a problem.
  • No it wouldn't definitely die.  If you move it or not you need to baby it with lots of water everynight.  I'd suggest building a shade over it for this summer until it's safer to move.  Simply take some stakes and add weed fabric or something similar.  It will block out light but allow water to go through.  That should make it happy!  Wink
  • I've moved my Endless Summer a few times during the summer.  No problems.
  • Thanks girls!! I think I will move them and then take extra good care of them!
