Aphid infestation

I just noticed aphids on my mint plant this morning.  It kind of looks like they are just taking hold.  I removed the stems where I saw them congregating on the branches.  What can I do to get rid of them?  I live on a 2nd floor apartment and everything is in containers, so I can't just spray it down with a hose.

Also, will aphids attack everything or just certain plants?  Should I segregate the mint by putting it on the other balcony to keep them from spreading to other plants?  Is it even possible for them to spread when everything is in containers?

Re: Aphid infestation

  • We've got wooly aphids and DH has been spraying them with a mixture of Murphy's Oil Soap and water.  Seems to be working.

  • Do you plan to eat the mint? We had aphids on our lemon tree. We didn't want anything toxic. I found something on the internet that said vinegar and water would work. We put it in a spray bottle, misted it and then, wiped the aphids off with paper towels. We sprayed again the next day. It worked great. Sorry, I don't remember the ratio. You could do a google search.

  • I'll google the vinegar thing.  I have the mint for tea, so I don't want anything toxic and my knowledge of the French language is not yet to the point where I can completely understand everything on the label of a bottle at the garden center.  I am afraid of buying some heavy-duty insecticide on accident.
