vegetable garden questions

This is my first year doing a square foot garden, everything is planted and doing pretty well, but I have  acouple of questions/concerns

1.  the soil underneath my eggplant has got a yellowy/peach fungus or mold growing on it.   Harmful?   Normal?

2.   my cucumber plants are growing pretty slowly (as compared to the beans which are flourishing) and their bottom leaves are yellowing.

anyone know what to do?

Re: vegetable garden questions

  • I would try to remove the fungus from your eggplant as possible.  It could be that not enough air is circulating around your eggplant.  I've never had this problem so this is my suggestion.  What time during the day are you watering them?  If you're watering them after dusk, this could be the problem.  Someone paged me so you may want to read that post where I talk about avoiding watering after dusk.

The bottom leaves on the cucumbers yellowing is natural.  You can trim these and toss as it doesn't hurt to trim dead leaves from time to time.  Cucumbers are thirsty and needs lots of sun for them to flourish.

    Good luck!
