Fresh Mint Question

Let me preface by stating that I have a horrible black thumb and know zero about gardening (i've already killed off 1/2 of what I planted this year)... anyway, I can't find fresh mint in my grocery stores easily and thought I'd just grow my own since I have managed to keep all of my herbs alive.  I do know that mint pretty much overtakes everything so I thought I'd contain it in it's own pot - since it grows so much do you think a 10" pot is big enough?  I have one in my garage needing something in it, but I wasn't sure if that'd be too small for something that grows at the rate of mint.

TIA!

Re: Fresh Mint Question

  • A 10" pot should be fine.  Mine is in something smaller than that and is huge.
  • Awesome, thanks!  I really didn't want to buy a new pot because I actually really like this one but it's too small for flowers (or at least that's why I tell myself they die in it!)
  • You know enough to plant the mint in a pot, that's a lot! Our house came with mint in the yard and I can't believe how aggressive it is. This fall I'm ripping it out and starting over.

The one thing i do like about it though is the bees love it when it flowers, and it makes me happy to provide them with some habitat.
