I'm at my wits end!
If the last 2 weeks we've had 100's of flies in our house.
Its SOooooooooooooo GROSS!
I've made sure to not keep ANY food out anywhere. The pets dont even get to have food unless its monitored by me, and so nala doesn't get to have food during the day right now while we aren't home.
Yesterday my white couch was BLACK. There were so many flies on it, I could barely see the couch.
I just wanted to cry. Every night I come home and swat them and kill them and vacuum them up.
Dh seems to not care. He just plays video games while I'm stressed. He says, They are just flies.
EXCUSE ME! Its disgusting!!!! I can't make dinner, they are EVERYWHERE.
I dont know much about flies. From what I heard....
they only live for a day or two and die. So you HAVE to find their food source to get rid of them.
Their food source is not visible anywhere in the house, so maybe something died in a wall and I can't smell it??
I think I MAY have stumbled onto something last night.
All the flies in the livingroom/kitchen were super lethargic (at the end of the day) so I could literally walk around with the vacuum hose and just suck them all up. 100 of them!
BUT I got to the laundry room and those flies were super fast/speedy. I couldn't just suck them up nor could i hit them with the flyswatter, they were too fast and quick to move. That makes me believe they are new (freshly hatched) flies.
Therefore maybe they are entering the house in the laundry room???
We have a unidentified metal circular hole on the ceiling. DH and I have no idea where it goes to, it just goes up. I dont know if it used to be attached to a plumbing pipe or what. I asked dh 10 times yesterday to cover the hole and see if that solves the issue, but the playstation 3 kept him distracted and he never did it.
Tonight, I am hiding the ps3 cord UNTIL he helps me tackle these flies. I spent a few hours last night by myself sucking them up and swatting them.
Seriously, I can't live in this house anymore until this is under control. Its so GROSS!!!
I'm stopping at OSH again on the way home for my fly paper and traps.
=(
Anyone have any other ideas? I thought of an exterminator BUT the only real way to get rid of the issue is to find 1. where they are entering the house and 2. where their food source is.
sigh.
Re: help! my house is overtaken by flies (kinda long and gross)
I feel so bad for you. But I chuckled a bit picturing you with a fly swatter and vacuum hose going throughout your house and your hubby just playing a video game not noticing.
I'm so sorry! I hope it gets better for you!
thanks jayme.
I really have no idea how it got so bad.
I'm going to put some traps in the laundry room and make DH cover that hole in the laundry room ceiling and see if that ends the chaos.
He was a bit concerned about covering holes when we dont know what they do. Maybe they could be ventilation for the dryer? I told him just to cover it, and I wont use the machines this weekend until we figure this out.
Hey Tonya - we had this issue last year. We forgot to put the garbage in the kitchen out before we went away for a few days and came home to it covered in magets. it was disgusting. So we get rid of it but a few days later, we all of a sudden are infestated with flys in the kitchen and dining room. I'm convinced those magets nested somewhere else, maybe under the frig.
DH went around spraying them with mint water which killed them but it was disgusting. We bought the traps but they barely worked so I'd say it's a waste of money. You have to find out where they're getting in. Maybe there's something rotten on the outside of hte house?
Monika,
You are depressing me.
ONe of my friends said there could be a dead body in the space between our ceiling and roof.
=(
This happened to me about 4 months ago. One day son came home to find loads of flies in the living room and dining room windows. Windows are closed until son get home from school so we don't know how they all got in. I also walked around smacking them and vacuuming them up with the vacuum hose. I live in an apt and told my manager about it. She told me that maybe we had bananas or our trash is probably the problem. I brought her in my apt and showed her I had no bananas and my trash bin was empty. After a few days they were gone, but a month later we had a water line bust and flooded our kitchen and dining room area. Now this is gross, maggots were coming up from underneath the carpet. It was gross and I vacuumed those up too.
Husband thinks that something is dead underneath or just outside our dining room window or something to do with our ghost friend too.
Hope you got rid of them.
