Rodeoes....

...which I think is the plural of Rodeo....

Anyone ever been to one?  There's one in a nearby suburb, and I've never been, so I'm curious.  Is the cruelty to animals really blatant?   Are they appropriate for kids?

Re: Rodeoes....

  • I've been to one in Mexico but not the states; so, I'm not sure on the differences.  There was no blatant animal abuse (no taunting, no physical abuse)--it was basically a contest between cowboys.  Kid appropriate?  IDK, it wasn't very exciting which might make for boredom.  On the US-based rodeo commercials, I usually see them include a cowboy monkey--that I think is a bit too much.  That little thing must be terrified!

  • Well I live very close to Calgary which is home to the "World Famous" Calgary Stampede...to which I have never been. LOL

I have however been to the much smaller by comparison Ponoka Stampede and I can't say I witnessed any animal cruelty. I did however witness some pretty good barrel racing, chuckwagon races and some kids trying to catch some sheep. It was fun but I could see children becoming pretty bored with it. There wasn't a lot for them to do at the rodeo but there was a midway on the rodeo grounds so that would be fun for them. But it was impossible to ride the rides and see the races at the same time.

  • Rodeos are AWESOME, but I am from Texas. There are always a ton of kids there and they all seem to enjoy it. I know I did.

  • My parents took me to a rodeo every summer when I was growing up. The rodeo we went to was very kid friendly. I can't remember any animal cruelty, but I don't know if that means anything since it was a long time ago and I was little. I've never heard of animal rights activists latching onto rodeos...
