EcoSmart fireplaces

http://www.ecosmartfire.com/en/fireplace-products

I think these are pretty cool... but to put it in perspective, we have a gas fireplace we haven't been able to use for 5 years because the starter ("on swtich") is broken, and my FIL ripped one of the metal vents off the bottom of the fireplace leaving twisted, jagged metal..

I would so much rather pop one of these in the fireplace and not have to deal with ripping the entire thing out.  Plus it sounds like it burns cleanly.

Re: EcoSmart fireplaces

  • The fireplace is for aesthetic purposes only right?  Because as an actual heat source that wouldn't be EF.

Aesthetic or not fireplaces are huge energy wasters (cause drafts, induce hot air out of your house, cost a lot to run $1/hr for natural gas normally, and don't produce that much heat) that's why I don't like them.  Most people don't have the sealed dampers in their chimneys so they lose heat out of their fireplace all winter long  That's like leaving your front door ajar all winter!
