Hi Ladies!
My husband and I are looking to travel to NYC for the first time for a few days as part of road trip on the east coast. We will be driving from Ohio and are definitely on a tight budget.
I was looking to stay in either Queens or Brooklyn as an affordable alternative. Most of these hotels also seemed to offer parking and we will need some place to leave our car. Some of the comments for the hotels said that the neighborhoods seemed unsafe. I'm not sure if these are just small-town USA views or if even local people would never step foot here.
The Brooklyn area is around Union St and 4th Ave.
The Queens area is around 21st St and 40th Ave.
Is one area safer than the other?
Any help that you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for helping a future tourist! ![]()
Re: Traveling to NYC
I live right by Union st and 4th Ave - I think you're probably looking at the Holiday Inn right there. It is definitely safe - just as always use common sense! My ILs have stayed there a couple times and said it was nice. You'd actually be a block away from one of the best neighborhoods in the city - park slope! Great bars, restaurants and shops. There is a subway stop right on Union St & 4th Ave so you can easily get into Manhattan. I think that hotel might have limited parking - so maybe just call when you book to make sure.
Also, I recommend when you drive into the city - if you stay in Brooklyn - take the Verazzano Bridge - it's easier for visitors as its all highway and you don't have to drive through manhattan.
Thank you so much! I will likely be booking something this week, and I appreciate the reassurance that I won't need to sprint from the subway to the hotel!
