My Ghostly Neighbors

From what we gathered it was an older man and younger girl. I had numerous (unrelated) people tell me that. I knew there was at least 1 person.

Let's see, the flies were one problem.

Another issue was the dart board on the patio. In the middle of the night you would hear a game of darts going on. The darts were always in different spots in the morning. We would look outside (just outside my kitchen window), and no one was there. Matt would line up the darts at night, and in the morning the darts were near the bullseye.

Also, I didn't have a door to my bedroon. Rather I hung a drape. One night I was walking from my room into the living room and I fell backwards. It felt like I walked into a door or large person which landed me on my butt. That pissed me off.

They weren't mean or anything, kind of protective. But that's just one of my ghost stories. It seems that the supernatural likes me. In my next addition I'll tell you about the Pink Lady of Ashville, NC. Google her for a sneak preview.

Re: My Ghostly Neighbors

  • I love these stories. I've lived with ghosts all of my life, some have followed me from place to place and others have joined us along the way. All of the women in my mom's family have the ability to see them and the men just think we're crazy. I'm pretty sure that all 3 of my girls see them too. I know for a fact that Michaela does and Rhian has made some comments lately about a little boy that plays in her bedroom. Reese has waved at the old man that turns off my tv so it's safe to say that she sees them too.
  • OMG! Creepy. I love ghost stories though, so I am intrigued. Jenn, that is interesting about your family. I wonder about babies and kids having the ability to see things we can't. Sometimes Audrey will stare at something (someone?) and just babble and laugh. Who knows what or who she sees!
  • oh fun, i'm going to google pink lady now...

so i'm curious..did you ever feel creeped out knowing someone was there and you were not alone. id be freaking out...

  • I've never "seen" them. I've only felt or witnessed. Matt can see them. I'm torn about it all. I think my g'pa (who passed 10 days before Madi was born) visits her regularly. There's no other explanation to it. Since she was born she stare up towards the window, and just laugh. But it was like someone was entertaining her.

I'm always uneasy about it all. But I haven't been terrified.

  • oh i remember one time when jacob was about 2 1/2 we had went to the hospital to see my NB niece and he was giggling and waving at the little kids playing...he wanted to go play he said they were calling him..i was like
what and started walking to where he wanted to go but my mom said NO and freaked out she said never follow a dead person...oh my!
  • Never follow a dead person?! Ack! I'd be running!
  • I've never really been scared though there have been a few  that I've been uneasy around. It's just been normal  for me though and my sister and I were 8 and 10 before we even realized that it wasn't something everybody could see.

I have 1 little girl that follows me everywhere. She's been with me since I was a very little girl. I can remember playing with her, almost like another sister. Now I think she thinks of me more as a mother figure. She's very clingy but protective of me and seems to dislike men. She likes to hide dh's keys and wallet and my jewelry.

Another showed up just after we moved here. I think he's an old man (the one that turns off my tv) because he smells like pipe tobacco and coffee.  I don't see him too clearly, just like a shadow but he likes to sit at the dining room table.

  • I love these stories. I have had lots of experiences since I was a kid, but when I moved into my current home, it had a very active spirit. It wasn't mean, but it really freaked me out for a long time.
  • I have a few stories from my childhood.  The house I lived in when I was about 6 had ghosts.  I could hear them talking in the morning when I woke up.  I always thought it was my mom and dad.  I would go running into the living room so excited to start the day.. just to be disappointed when no one was there and my mom and dad were sound asleep.

Then, someone dropped my crayon box and scattered the crayons all over the floor.  My mom said once she heard somene throw her car keys on the couch.  Sure enough, she found her keys on the couch when she had put them on the table across the room.

I can't see ghosts like Jenn, but they come to me in my dreams.  Usually when I am the most frightened and need comfort.  There is this little baby that has always been with me, I think it is my lost twin.  Then my great grandma visits me too.  In fact, just the other day, while my mom was visiting me, she said, "oh wow!  I can smell Caro's perfume.  she is here."  I smiled and said " I am not surprised, I sometimes feel like she is with me."

Julian is always talking, singing, laugh with someone in his room when we put him to sleep and in the morning when he wakes up.  Alex and I think he is either talking to his brother that passed away or my grandmother.

  • We have "roommates" in our house, too.  They like to hide things or open closed doors.  Just this morning, one of them turned on the bathroom faucet while DH was in the shower.  Since we live in my childhood home, I'm so used to them, but I've never seen them.

On the other hand, DH and his mom's side of the family can vividly see ghosts.  They seem to have that sixth sense, but not creepy like the movie.  DH says that he's seen the ones at our house and they're not evil.  He has seen evil spirits... but that's another story.

  • By the way, we've noticed that Jake can see them, too.  From the time he was a couple of months old, we've seen him stare at "something" and start laughing and babbling with it.
  • Ohhh tell us the evil spirits stories!
  • Oh my!  How creepy.  I have one who is here....he is a cowboy.  I swear it is my Uncle.  I saw him one time, the night my uncle (who is also my Godfather) passed away.  He was just standing by our bed watching me/us.  It was kind of scary until I realized who it was.

I believe that children have the ability to see them too....I really do.  I have noticed Katie looking at something too.  Just this morning, I was sitting on the floor playing with her and she looked towards the other room and then looked at me as if to say "Did you see that!".  I looked at her and then in the direction she was looking and then she pointed.  Strange, huh?

I can't wait to hear about the other one....I'm gonna google it now.  :)

  • I like these stories too...but only the good ones.  Remember I'm a chicken!

I totally believe that kids can more easily pick up on these things.  MIL says that DH and his nephews, maybe others in the family, have mentioned past lives via stories and those "remember Mommy, we lived in the mountains and there were indians all around us?" memories...all the while, they never lived in the mountains and the stories were told between the ages of 3 - 5.

I like to also think that when kids laugh in their sleep, it's cuz their angels or friendly ghosts are playing with them.

Maybe I'm off base here...just trying to contribute, all tho I have had only dreams of people I've lost.

  • ::::totally scared, up late with a crying baby and this was soo the wrong post to open!!!:::: I would like to pretend that ghosts don't live in my home so that I can sleep better at night. If they do, I hope they are nice people considering the one and only original owner was Walt Disney's chauffer...that's gotta stand for something, right?

EEk!! I don't know how you girls deal with this. If I saw darts on a dart board, crayons messed across the floor or anything even close to what you've witnessed I'd be moving the hell out of my home. Seriously, cannot deal with anything even close to that. (maybe they are aware of this and purposely leave me alone, remember I'm the girl who starts to hyperventilate when I hear dramatic music!!)

  • My grandmother used to regularly visit my sister.  At least that's what we think.  When my grandmother passed my sister ended up with several of her things in a display cabinet.  Candace would come home sometimes to find the light on in the cabinet (when it was off when she left).  Sometimes she would "misplace" her diamond earrings ... she was sure she put them someplace only to find them moved the next morning.

She would say "Hi Grandma" when she'd fine the light on or when she couldn't find her earrings she would ask my grandmother to help her find them and she usually would.  I don't know that she has ever "seen" her or really felt her presence but she does believe it's her.

I've not felt her as much ... I wear my earrings all the time (I never take them out ... but they were her earrings so I would think if I did she'd have some interest in them whereas my sisters are my moms).  I do think she and my grandfather watch over us though.

No one in my family has ever talked about ghosts so I would assume no one has ever felt them.  Interestingly though the house we grew up in my parents were the first owners and my sister and my houses were new construction too so maybe that has something to do with it ... no one here to bother us. :)

My dog, that rarely barks, will sometimes stare at our kitchen and bark and we can't figure out what he's barking at ... there will be nothing there, no animal in the back, no person, etc and yet he's fixated on something.  Maybe he sees something? Who knows!  He's also done it in our bedroom ... it's infrequent but it unnerves me every time.

  • I'm with Pea on this one.  I'm reading this at work and I'm freaking out.  I would move so fast from these haunted houses!!!!!
