So last Friday I attend my SIL's High School graduation. It was the first time I'm been to one since my own 10 years ago. While we were watching it, DH, MIL, Step-FIL, BIL, and I were trying to recall memories of our own graduations. So I was curious... how much do you remember?? Here are few questions to jog the memory.
When/Where was it?
How many students in your class?
What color robe did you wear?
Did you have a Valedictorian? If so, do you remember who it was?
Class president? Did they give a speech?
Any guess speakers?
Did you have a class song? If so, what was it?
Any shenanigans (beach balls, air horns, pranks, etc...)?
Anything else that stands out?
Re: High School Graduation Poll
When/Where was it? June 18, 2000 at our high school auditorium. It was a Saturday so I want to say sometimes in the afternoon.
How many students in your class? I want to say like 218 but I don't know if they all graduated. SIL had 1,033 in her class!
What color robe did you wear? Girls wore white. We were required to wear a white dress/clothes underneath.
Did you have a Valedictorian? If so, do you remember who it was? I know we had one but I can't remember exactly who it was. I can see the top 3 but not sure who was who.
Class president? Did they give a speech? I want to say our class president was Jon Callahan but I don't remember if he spoke. I want to say he did.
Any guess speakers? The debate team teacher Mr. Seftas spoke but I couldn't tell you what he spoke about.
Did you have a class song? If so, what was it? Vitamin C - Graduation (Friends Forever)
Any shenanigans (beach balls, air horns, pranks, etc...)? Our class was lame, we didn't do anything.
Anything else that stands out? That I just wanted to be done. Once I got my diploma I wanted to just get up and leave. We did throw our hats though, which made for a neat picture.

Did you have a class song? If so, what was it? see answer above, but I remember singing You'll Never Walk Alone with the choir.
Any shenanigans (beach balls, air horns, pranks, etc...)? no, we were just glad to be out!
Anything else that stands out? I still have braces on in my pic... and my then BF showed up in some horrible tiny running shorts.
When/Where was it? May I think, I don't remeber the date. It was at about 5 or 6 o'clock probably on our football feild.
How many students in your class? 98 I believe
What color robe did you wear? Girls wore white & Guys wore Red
Did you have a Valedictorian? If so, do you remember who it was? Cody Smith was our Valedictorian. I had a huge crush on him from 2nd to like 7th grade. lol
Class president? Did they give a speech? I can't remember...
Any guess speakers? No
Did you have a class song? If so, what was it? No
Any shenanigans (beach balls, air horns, pranks, etc...)? No
Anything else that stands out? We had a huge boquet of roses in front of the poteum in memory of a girl that was in our class that died when we were in the 7th grade. She had a heart defect. Everyone loved her, she was a sweet person, friends with everybody, I really miss her sometimes. The day after she died at school was so sureal. Everyone was crying, even teachers. She was a special person.

Any shenanigans (beach balls, air horns, pranks, etc...)? No, not with the class.
Anything else that stands out? Not about the actual ceremony but a few weeks before on our last day they posted seating arrangements by the office in the front hall. I looked and looked for my name and it wasnt on there. I thought I had missed too many days from being sick and that I failed. I started freaking out. I brought home a copy of it and showed my mom. We couldnt make sense of it since noone had mentioned it or anything. Come to find out I was graduating with honors and didnt even realize it (stupid me). I was seated up front (since my maiden name begins with a w, I am used to looking in the back). Doh!
ETA: The 17 empty seats of the members of our class that had passed away while we were in school. Yes, 17.

Class president? Did they give a speech? Alicia Green. I can't remember if she spoke. I know that the Valedictorian and Salutatorian did.
Any guess speakers? No. We vetoed that. The class officers sat with the "honored guests" i.e. school board officials etc.- originally we were supposed to sit behind them, but we insisted that we sit in front of them because it was our ceremony.
Did you have a class song? If so, what was it? Yes. I think it was "Count on Me"
Any shenanigans (beach balls, air horns, pranks, etc...)? Each of us handed our principal a mini koosh ball as we shook his hand.
Anything else that stands out? The ceremony was at dusk, we walked through a path of candles in bags on the ground (can't remember what they are called! Darned pregnancy brain!) and carried flashlights before they turned the field lights on.
When/Where was it? June 1999. I can't remember the exact date, but it would have been mid-June. Held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

Anything else that stands out? our school's grad night party was great - we took busses to Seattle, did a dinner cruise, then rented out the Hard Rock Cafe for late-night. We had food, a DJ, a velcro maze, and a hypnotist. Good clean fun
.
When/Where was it? June 1995. Vista, CA. Rancho Buena Vista High School. I don't recall the day. It was on the football field - that wasn't finished. Only a scoreboard.

Class president? Did they give a speech? Alex Gonzales was the Class President, which he won by campaigning on the local radio show, Jef and Jer (which was huge in San Diego at the time). He gave a funny speech and took pictures of the class and the crowd from the stage. We started dating that night. He now is vice president of ringtones at a multimedia entertainment company or something like that.
Any guest speakers? no, lol
Did you have a class song? If so, what was it? We had a school song:
Rancho, The Mighty Longhorns
With Integrity, the Extraordinary
The Best Are We
Longhorns, The Halls of Excellence
Stand Proud and Free
Through Unity
The Longhorns Are We
Any shenanigans (beach balls, air horns, pranks, etc...)? I think there was a beach ball or two, but we were searched before we went onto the field.
Anything else that stands out? A lot of people sang. Some of the guys sang "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday" by Boys II Men in 4-part harmony, which was HUGE when I was in high school. One of those guys became a telenovela star, I think. My MOH and her friend gave a speech that was kind of lame. The year before I was an arch-bearer, which was a cool thing we had for graduation. Junior girls got to decorate arches so they were just swollen with real flowers that the graduates got to walk through as they were seated. It smelled and looked amazing. They were so heavy! It was nice to walk through those arches the next year. That night we went to grad night at Disneyland. I have a picture of that day on my desk at work. It was a very happy day.
That's why I have you girls! To remember the things I can't!

Any guess speakers? Maybe someone from the school board? I'm not really sure.
Did you have a class song? If so, what was it? No...but we did have a lame class motto.
Any shenanigans (beach balls, air horns, pranks, etc...)? My high school principal was a very large and tall black man (intimidating as heck at first impression, but a real sweetheart underneath) with a loud booming voice, and he told the audience he would personally eject them/enlist the help of the police officers in attendance if they used air horns. So I don't recall that being a problem.
Anything else that stands out? I was 3rd from last (since my last name is Y****) so I had a LONG wait to get to the stage--I think it was about an hour from when they started calling people up.

Any guess speakers? Nope
Did you have a class song? If so, what was it? Yes but again my old mind fails me.
Any shenanigans (beach balls, air horns, pranks, etc...)? We didn't do anything during the ceremony but the senoir prank was to hide all the chalk board erasers. The teachers didn't find that too funny. My oldest brother's class did the best. They dismantled a VW Bug and put it back together in the middle of the cafeteria.

Class president? Did they give a speech? Hmmm, I think so. I know all of the valdictorians and saluatorians did.
Any guess speakers? Some board member or something....not sure.
Did you have a class song? If so, what was it? Yes. It was Boys to Men "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday"
Any shenanigans (beach balls, air horns, pranks, etc...)? There was a big prank a few weeks before school let seniors out. A bunch of kids got together and graffitied some of the walls. It was a big ordeal acutally and the students had to come in and pressure wash the walls and pay for the damages. They almost didn't get to walk or participate in their state competitions for track.
Anything else that stands out? My friends and I all went and got our cartilages pierced the day before graduation. It wasn't the brightest decision because the caps rubbed the piercing and really hurt. It was fun though.

Any guess speakers? Nope.
Did you have a class song? If so, what was it? I don't recall having an 'official' class song, no. I do remember that Eve 6 "Here's to the Night" song was way popular that spring, though.
Any shenanigans (beach balls, air horns, pranks, etc...)? Some people (purposefully) fell flat on their face while walking across the stage. Nothing else really stands out.
Anything else that stands out? It was long and boring.
I do remember that I told my parents the wrong aisle I would recess down, so they were standing on both sides with their cameras ready. It turned out that that was the aisle my ex-boyfriend walked down. Awkward!

Any guess speakers? I don't remember, I am failing this poll
Did you have a class song? If so, what was it? No, just the "school song" which I couldn't recite for you, sorry.
Any shenanigans (beach balls, air horns, pranks, etc...)? Nope we were searched too and if you did try something, you were "done".
Anything else that stands out? Nope, it was a fun day and we were just happy that we didn't have it at the Rose Bowl where it was usually held because it was like 99 degrees that day and we would've DIED. Instead we were in the ritzy auditorium with A/C.
When/Where was it? June 2, 2000, at a local open air stadium in my town
How many students in your class? I think 275ish
What color robe did you wear? white
Did you have a Valedictorian? If so, do you remember who it was? No. There were 4 people eligible for it so I think they just skipped it.
Class president? Did they give a speech? I don't remember. I'm sure there was someone.
Any guess speakers? I think there was someone, but I don't remember
Did you have a class song? If so, what was it? I'm sure there was, they played something but I don't think anyone knew we even had a class song.
Any shenanigans (beach balls, air horns, pranks, etc...)? There were some beach balls in the crowd. Some families had air horns to use when their kid went across the stage--it got annoying really fast.
Anything else that stands out? (1) I participated in a performance using sign language to "sing" a song. (2) Our principal, after seeing and confiscating the beach balls, got on the stage and went on for about 20 or 30 minutes about how she can still "prevent us from graduating," how we're all "unworthy" of graduating, how we're all "poor citizens," and how we're "not officially graduates until they play Pomp & Circumstance." YEAH, real nice, huh?
