Is it just me?

Or does it seem that we're getting an influx of newbies moving to Atl/GA?

I don't think it's a bad thing at all. Just an observation... and a hope that it encourages more activity on the board during the day.

So here's a big welcome to all the newbies! Come on in!

Re: Is it just me?

  • Nope-it's true. And not just for the nest. I saw a study the other day that showed that Atlanta was one of the fastest growning metropolitain areas...(like it needs more traffic- no offense to the newbies)

  • Well, in THAT case...

I'm new!  Not new to ATL (moved here during the "blizzard" of '93), but new to this board.  I'm a teacher, my husband is a band director for a large university, and we have two adorable dogs.  I'm a ferocious football fan, I have a pretty wicked sense of humor, and....umm....that's all.

  • I actually was reading an article in 'Time' magazine last time I was home and Georgia was estimated to have a high (over 3%) increase in employment since it was hit so hard by the recession - it was actually rated as one of the future highest-growth employment states.
  • Welcome! What grade to you teach?
  • I was teaching middle school, but I just accepted a new position teaching high school orchestra.  I'm nervous....I used to get mistaken for a middle schooler all the time, so high school is going to be that much worse!!

  • Yeah I think a lot of people {including myself} find Atlanta appealing because it's so much less expensive to live compared to other places! We were recently looking at houses on realtor.com and my jaw dropped... I can't believe the house prices and taxes - amazing!

  • Yeah, Atlanta is known for being a huge transplant city, and here I am trying to find ways to leave!

This was definitely one of the deciding factors in us accepting a new opportunity there.  Compared to where we're living right now, there's about a 7% difference in the cost of living (it's cheaper in ATL) and houses are almost 30% less!  My jaw dropped as well.....we can get so much more house for less than what we're paying right now!  I'm starting to get really excited for our move there!  We'll be coming in next weekend to start looking for houses since we really only have a few weeks!

Everyone here seems so nice on this board and I look forward to chatting daily!

  • welcome to all the newbies!!! bring on the chitter chatter!
