Which iPad should I get?

I am thinking of getting DH an iPad for our anniversary in August.  We'll use it in lieu of a work laptop to access the web, answer emails (work and otherwise), he can do fantasy sports on it, etc.  Potentially movie watching and I don't know what else. So it'll be used in the evenings and weekends mostly for leisure.

Question is: which one do I get?  I am pretty ignorant when it comes to GB - will the 16GB version work too slow or have too little memory or what?

 Thanks.

Re: Which iPad should I get?

  • As far as I know the size (16 gb) only has to do with storage space. If he is going to store a ton of songs, photos, etc., you'd want the largest one.  DH & I have 2 different sizes and speed is the same, just depends on how fast the wireless network is.

It sounds like the WiFi-only model should be fine for you guys. There's really no reason to get the 3G unless you're planning to carry it around a lot. As PP mentioned, the size is just about storage. For web browsing and basic home use, I think the 16GB seems to be pretty decent (we went low end because we plan to buy a new one when the next version comes). If you plan to put a lot of movies on it at one time, you might want to step up the size. Right now I have 9 one-hour TV shows along with a few dozen books and about 5 pages of apps, and my 16GB is about half full. If we wanted to take a bunch of movies on vacation, I think we would fill it pretty easily. So depending on how much video you want to store on it, you might want to step up to the 32GB. I don't think you need the 64GB unless you're planning some serious usage or storing all your files on the device.

  • I absolutely recommend the 3G.  My husband got it and at first I thought it was too much money to spend, but it's worth it.  We take it EVERYWHERE!  We've found that we love it for car rides.
