Has anyone done a major backyard renovation? PIP

BF and I are planning to do a major project on our back yard as soon as we can establish and produce a budget needed.

Please excuse my shotty attempt at a pano pic. image

What our ideas are roughly, is to push the hill back about 10 feet making it 5 feet high and make a few retaining walls with stairs up either side. We would also like to place grass on the bottom flat part about 1000 sf. Plus including some trees and bushes for decor. Total land is about 3500 sf give or take.

Of course I'm not looking for exact quotes just if anyone has done a large project like this?

If they hired out or DIY'd?

Rough cost?

What could I expect?

Anything, anything, anything! TIA.

I'm renovating my backyard now, and I do this sort of thing for a living. However there are many more factors that go into quoting a job like this, namely the hardscape building materials chosen and the equipment rental costs.

  • We live in a townhome and turned our ugly weed pit into a great space with a paver patio, raised flagstone flower bed and 2 raised veggie garden beds. Here's additional pics I posted earlier on D&R:

  • Wow, that looks great! We're also looking into doing our old front rose bush area with pavers. It's just a matter of time and money now.
