Ever read My Sister's Keeper?

I just finished reading this book this morning and am now in tears, which I did not expect at all. I saw the movie back when it first came out, and the book and movie were pretty similar all the way through until BAM the ending just hits you and is totally different. Don't get me wrong, it's a great book, just a horribly sad and unexpected ending.

I know movies are often different from books, but I'm surprised they filmed a completely different ending. I wonder how often movies totally veer off course from the books they are named after...

  • I havent read it yet, but have heard that the ending is a shocker.

And most movies totally veer off course - thats why I always try to read the books first.  But then it is soooo disappointing!

  • I am a little surprised they changed the ending as well. I think the ending in the book is more shocking/surprising than the ending in the movie.

  • Oh, now I am wondering how the movie ends. The book was quite a shocker.

The movie has a much more predictable ending I would say, the book's ending is totally unexpected and very sad!

I'd agree. But that's OK, I enjoyed the movie even though it was different, it was still a tear jerker.

  • My sister's keeper was the first Jodi Picolt book I read.  I now have read well over 10 of her books, and I'm not an frequent reader, so that says something about her writing.  I finally watched the movie over the 4th of July weekend, my friend had already told me they totally changed the ending, so I completely put off watching it.  I was very disappointed that they changed it, I think it would have given the movie a little bit extra, but instead ended up having a bland, expected ending.  I do know that quite a few of her book have been made into Lifetime movies, haven't watched any of them though.  I'm currently reading "The Pact,"  we'll see how this one turns out!
