I want to meet new people

Got married in April, I love going out with just me and my hubby but sometimes I think we need to do something new. I would like to meet new people but I'm rather shy and have a hard time making new friends. Anybody have any ideas for new social things to do that might end up in making new friends.

Re: I want to meet new people

  • Try volunteer work! I love the theatre and volunteer at Raleigh Little Theatre. I've met a ton of new people through that. We have get togethers (GTG) on this board sometimes, join us next time. We also have a book club, if you're interested in that sort of thing. We meet (usually) the first Thurs of every month. This months book is The Help by Kathryn Stockett (I that that's her name) and we're meeting Thurs, July 8 at Starbucks on lake Boone Trail.
  • Check out meetup.com.  I've met some great friends through groups on there, and DH and I run a couples group.

  • i am in the same boat....we are getting more involved in rescue and volunteering but haven't met anyone yet we can hang out with.
  • We too are in the same boat. DH works with people that are old enough to be his dad in most cases and I work . . .well, I work with horses LoL.

DH joined a group on Meetup a while back and he's now good friends with the head organizer of his group and we go out with him and his wife from time to time.

I've meet a few knotties and we've had game nights or lake trips. G2G are great!

I want to join a Meetup group, but I feel like I'd be 'that awkward shy chick'. . .ugh, but then again who knows.

I think the volunteering would be great and you'd meet people that are interested in at least one thing you're interested in.

  • I have this problem too- I've lived here for about 2 years and the only people I know are from work. Fortunately, I really like the people I work with, but it would be nice to meet more people for sure. It's harder to meet people in this stage of life I think, than say when you're in college

  • I met a lot of my good friends by being very active in our HOA.  I've organized Supper Club, Happy Hour and Block Parties, which attract the younger couples.  I've also made a few friends through work and here on the nest.

Sounds like it might be time for another GTG!

Some meetup groups can be really awkward, but others are really great.  DH and I organize Triangle Young (ish) Couples.  We've met some great couple friends and the women have turned into great girlfriends for me!

  • I'm a part of Jenna's meetup group and it's a really great group of people.  I haven't been able to be as involved lately (as every spare moment is spent on our new house) but I hope to be able to participate in more of the meetups now that we're mostly settled.

    I 2nd a GTG :)
