I was looking at your bio and saw you went to CR on your honeymoon! We are going there in 2 weeks for our 1 year anniversary trip with some friends.

Looks like we are taking a similar trip to yours. We land in San Jose, drive to Puntarenas then take a ferry to Tambor?

How was the drive from San Jose to Puntarenas - I'm a little nervous about the long drive.

Re: *Leigha12

  • Are you driving or taking a bus? We took a bus chartered by our hotel/resort, Barcelo. If you can leave it to the "experts", I would. The drive is beautiful, but long and a little scary to be honest. Winding roads, mountains, etc. We got lucky and it didn't really rain during the bus rides to and from San Jose. IIRC, the road between San Jose and Puntarenas was at least a decent road. The roads in the Tambor area are pretty crappy.

That is crazy that you're doing the same thing! Are you staying at an AI or adventuring out on your own? I guess that would make the difference in whether or not you're driving!

We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

We are driving ourselves. eeek! I'm a little more nervous now. I am such a wuss in the car when it comes to windy roads.

We are staying in an AI for a couple days then staying at 2 different vacation rentals since we will be with a group.

I pray it doesn't rain on our drive. I'll take rain the rest of the trip just not on our drive.

  • It rains 1 to 2 times a day there (part of what we loved about it!). Usually early in the morning and then late afternoon.  Are you getting an SUV? I'd recommend it, especially for once you're on the peninsula.  Take a Dramamine for the drive (for most drives in the area, actually!). There is a small town on the way, San Ramon, and a lot of buses stop there at El Jardin San Ramon.  Stop there to take a break. Don't eat at the diner, but you can take a potty break, grab some bottled water, etc. The garden is beautiful.

Oh, and go zip lining if you can. It was the best part of our trip! We zip lined near Monctezuma, I think, (like 10 miles from Tambor) and half way through the platforms, there was a waterfall and we all got to jump off it and go swimming.

We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.
