Is there any place for dogs to swim outdoors for free? Any lakes or ponds nearby? Outside of Towson is fine.
Re: dog swimming
Actually, most of Rocks State Park has signs that say no pets. You can pick random areas away from the picnic places, which we used to do.
Quiet Waters park near Annapolis has a doggie beach which is a lot of fun.
Actually they don't anymore. At least that's what the ladies on here say.
You can take your dog down to Little Gunpowder falls in Joppa, MD. It's right off of Jersaluem Rd.
It's true - I live next to QWP, and the dog beach has been closed (erosion).
When we lived in Balto., we went to Robert E Lee Park (I think on W. Lake Dr., off Falls Rd.)
Yup, you can now take your dog(s) to many of the parks nearby. We took Tucker to an area at Rocks State Park but I do NOT recommend it - that is the place where we took him - I think it was Kilgore Falls. It was way too crowded with people boozing, smoking, blaring music, and the swimming options for our dog weren't great (kind of dangerous too at points). That said, we'll probably check out other areas of the park.
On the other hand, we took him yesterday to Gunpowder State Park...at the Fallston location. It's kind of secretive and not listed online I think. There is this little beach and some deeper swimming areas - plenty of room! Let me know if you want specific directions and I can give them to you!
The general Gunpowder link:
http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/central/gunpowder.aspMore and more of the state parks are becoming dog-friendly in more areas, especially the non-picnic areas, so that's good!
we have a book called "doggin maryland" and I really like it.....it's worth seeing if you can find it...it tells you what parks are dog-friendly in Maryland and whether there is swimming, etc.
That sounds like a cool book. I was at Black Hills Regional Park this weekend and there were dogs swimming as well as a dog park.
We have this book too and I always forget about it!
Jen - just wrote you back! I hope the directions make sense. It still puzzles me why this information isn't listed on the DNR site, but maybe I'm missing it! It's a neat spot - let me know if you guys go. We need to take Tucker to explore some other locations around there.
