Hi everyone! I just wanted to share a couple of pictures of summer themed cupcakes I made for a graduation party.
The cupcakes themselves were actually out of a box (Betty Crocker...never used that brand of mix before, and never will again. I prefer Pillsbury if I make box ones). I made the cupcakes last night and let them cool. This morning, I frosted each with a thin layer of french vanilla icing (to act as my base). I took some of the same icing, dyed it blue, and covered half of the cupcakes (the "water"). Then, I smashed up a grahm cracker and sprinkled it on the other half (the "sand"). I added blue sprinkles to the "water" side also.
When we got to the party, I added the cocktail toothpick umbrellas and the gummy bears (I used red and white only -- sunburned and not sunburned). They were a pretty big hit

It actually started because of an idea I saw in a Disney magazine to do BBQ grill cupcakes, but I couldn't find black food coloring or orange sprinkles. So I googled "summer cupcake" images and found ones similar to those and just used the inspiration to build from there.
be glad you didnt find the black food coloring (i got some at joannes) because NO ONE likes their mouths to turn black from frosting.
we did a panda puzzle cupcake cake with black chocolate icing and most everyone scraped the frosting off, and we gave the white cupcakes to the kids.
The What's New Cupcake? book has charcoal themed cupcakes (with red rice cakes for the burgers) that doesn't use black food coloring. I think maybe using crushed oreos and red sprinkles.
