Lake George / weekend / traffic

Oh, so to add to my previous post..

I came back to NY from VT on Sunday.  We left VT early (morning, instead of afternoon).  We hit Fort Ann around 11am so I figured, let's just go through Lake George because how bad can the traffic be?  (I figured in part, who would drag their dad to the outlets on Father's Day as well..)

Well, the traffic from 149 to 1-87 was horrible.  We sat in traffic for 40 minutes.  I was so mad.

Then we stopped at the Great Escape.  We didn't think it was going to be too busy, DH has season passes and I thought we'd go for 2 hours while the baby was awake and then get back in the car when it was time for her nap.

What a nightmare.  The parking lot was full -- we drove so far in the Great Escape Parking lots that we were at the end, in a field of tall grass next to some creepy motel.  We spent about 1/2 hour driving around and then had to wait for them to open a new lot.  We asked if the park is always this busy in the summer and they said yes.

What a turnoff.. It makes me not really want to go to places like Lake George or Cape Cod when I spend so much time stuck in traffic, especially when we try to avoid it and still get stuck. :(

Re: Lake George / weekend / traffic

  • We were at the outlets at that time and the traffic was fine.  We left the campground a little before 11 and went right past all the outlets with no problem and got on the Northway.  The traffic was heavy but it was moving and going at least the speed limit.
