iPod Touch users...

I've been going back and forth about buying an iPod Touch. The new one is supposed to debut in Sept, and I'm hoping it'll have the new, advanced enhancements (like it did with the iPhone 4).

Do you love yours?

What do you like most about it?

What apps do like to use/play with?

What size hard drive do you have?

Re: iPod Touch users...

  • It's an amazing device but whether it's worth it depends upon why you want it.

As an iPod, it's OK. I like the overall functionality better than other iPods, but the sound quality is definitely not as good.

As a gadget, I give it an A-. There is no question it's awesome, loads of fun, and useful in completely random ways. I often will look things up online while I'm doing chores because it suddenly occurs to me that I want to know XYZ, such as a recipe or a phone number. That's not something as easily done with a stationary laptop.

OTOH, it sucks being tethered to wi-fi hot spots. I call the Touch a gateway drug because I had no clue how much I wanted a smartphone, i.e., the capacity to browse the Internet, until I got my Touch. Now the fact that I can't look up, say, driving directions while I'm out and about is insanely frustrating.

If you have a smartphone, you will probably find the Touch to be redundant in many ways. However, if what you really want is an iPhone but don't have AT&T or don't want to spend the money, the Touch is a great alternative.
  • Just to clarify my second to last paragraph, since I'm on my Touch and can't edit posts :-), what I meant was that I want browsing capacity without having to find a hot spot. I find that I now patronize businesses that offer wi-fi simply so my Touch will function. What I really want is to have Internet access at all times because I've discovered a thousand reasons that it would be useful. My smartphone should be arriving via FedEx next week. :-)
