Back from the green wedding

It was awesome!  Best wedding I have been to!

So, the stuff that was 'green'.. there was a lot so I may miss a bunch!! :

Plates were made from fallen leaves (http://www.verterra.com/)

Utensils were compostable

There were 3 bins: compost, landfill, recycle.  The compost one had the most in it, and the landfill bin was tiny!

Everything was local and vegetarian: cider, wines, all the food (including cheese, fruit, veggies, mushrooms, etc).  My aunt (bride's mom) did most of the food herself, like homemade lasagna.  All in reusable pans.

The markers for the food (buffet style) were little ceramic placecards that you can write on with a marker and wipe clean/reuse

Save the dates were recycled paper bookmarks

Favors were large packets of native organic seeds

Invites/RSVPs were all done online.  Registery was honeyfund, or requested recycled/vintage/etc type gifts.

There were GMO-free/organic fortune cookies

E-ring was conflict free diamond

Bride's mom bought her dress from a consignment shop (like an upscale one.. dress was gorgeous)

Overall, it wasn't an obviously "crunchy" wedding.  Everything was really really nice and well done.  A great experience!

  • I am impressed with the bride. That is a lot of green components.

  • That sounds nice! I don't mind 'crunchy' at all, but its nice to see examples that aren't so crunchy, so people realize that one doesn't have to be all hippiefied to just be less wasteful!

  • wow, so great! thanks for the update!
  • Wow, that's awesome!  It seems like it was fairly easy, and kind of bums me out that I wasn't very eco-friendly when we got married.  Better late than never, though, right?  Embarrassed

  • I haven't figured out yet how to have a green/vegetarian wedding...so I just haven't yet.  Thank you for all the details!  I'll add them to my list of ideas for sure.
  • That is so amazing. Super cool! Glad you had fun!
