broccoli FAIL

So I've never planted broccoli before. We went away for a long weekend and when we came back today all my broccoli turned into flowers.... argh. It was all just green and broccoli looking when we left on Friday. I guess I should have picked it before we left. I had no idea it was going to do that while we were gone. :(

    Don't feel bad. The same thing happened to my cilantro while I was on vacation. I did manage to get some use out of it before we left for vacation. I figure I'll let it go to seed and start some more plants.

    We had a "godzilla" of field mice eat ours...we caught it about 2 days after it ate all of the brocolli...all we got the next batch was the flowers...oh well, there is always next year.

    If you cut off the central stalk, it will still produce edible side stalks.  All might not be lost.  Broccoli is really a cool weather plant, you can also put in a second crop this fall.

    Same thing happened to my dill, but I wasn't even out of town. I just wasn't paying close enough attention :)
