broccoli FAIL

So I've never planted broccoli before. We went away for a long weekend and when we came back today all my broccoli turned into flowers.... argh. It was all just green and broccoli looking when we left on Friday. I guess I should have picked it before we left. I had no idea it was going to do that while we were gone. :(

Re: broccoli FAIL

  • Don't feel bad. The same thing happened to my cilantro while I was on vacation. I did manage to get some use out of it before we left for vacation. I figure I'll let it go to seed and start some more plants.

  • sigh...same thing happened to me last year. I'm cutting it small this year!
  • We had a "godzilla" of field mice eat ours...we caught it about 2 days after it ate all of the brocolli...all we got the next batch was the flowers...oh well, there is always next year.

  • If you cut off the central stalk, it will still produce edible side stalks.  All might not be lost.  Broccoli is really a cool weather plant, you can also put in a second crop this fall.
  • Same thing happened to my dill, but I wasn't even out of town. I just wasn't paying close enough attention :)
