Need help with a gift idea

Ugh - we have 6 bdays this month:

My mom
My brother
My dad
My grandma
DH's dad
DH's step-mom

Now I find out I need to send a wedding gift, and I feel overwhelmed. This is my step-brother, and we're not very close, but I'd still like to send him a little something. They're not registered anywhere and live in the country, so gift cards probably wouldn't be the best. Any ideas for a gift under $50? Is there anything you got for your wedding for $30-$50 that you LOVE and use a lot? Since they're not registered, I have no idea what they need :-/

I'm just overwhelmed and I can't make a decision! LOL! Thanks for any help!

Re: Need help with a gift idea

  • That's really tough! We never used the presents that we got at the wedding that we weren't registered for. :( I would try to stay away from things like clocks, wedding albums, and photo frames, and they will likely get lots of them.

Why aren't gift cards a valid option? Most people I know LOVE getting cash for their wedding. :)  You could always get one of those gift credit cards from the bank. Then they can spend it wherever they want.

Good luck with your shopping. September/October is a big birthday month in my family too!

  • It's funny because the older generation in my family has September/October birthdays as well.  I like to joke with them that they knew what their parents got for Christmas the year before.  Wink

Now, at least here in FL, everyone I know tries to get preggers during the summer months so they will deliver January, February, March or April before it gets too hot.

As far as a gift idea, if they didn't register it's because they want cash.  But I'm like you, I hate giving cash and gift cards because $50 doesn't always seem like a lot to me (even though it is because I am unemployed at the moment).  If they already live together they probably have the usual kitchen appliances.  What do they like to do together?  DH and I love going to state parks to hike, swim, kayak, etc... so an Annual FL State Park Pass would have been well received.  Try to pick something that encourages them to do something together or just send them the cash (check if mailing) because when you're starting out every little bit helps.

  • You ladies have been a great help - thank you!

  • I loved getting cash -- didn't you? I also loved (and love) gc to certain stores and bank/cc gf as well.

One wedding gift was a night out at a restaurant -- I thought that was nice and something "different". Even though they live out in the country, I am sure they have restaurants.

I never looked at like "$50 is so cheap -- I can't believe they only gave us that much!" DH and I were grateful for anything . . . we didn't get married just for present; but present sure are nice!

Oh, and the only gift that we actually used that was bought on our registry is a Armetale silver platter. I love that plate -- it keeps hot things hot and cold things cold. I have used it for baked brie, veggie plate , and choc chip cookies, etc (I am known for my cookies) I lve that plate -- the pattern got discontinued a few months alter -- I wish I had bought a few other pieces. I never thought I would use it and I LOVE it!!
