What is in between Chicago and St. Louis?
My family lives in Chicago and my husband and I live in St. Louis. Every year we like to get together for a weekend. When I used to live in Chicago, we went to Galena, but now Galena is so far away for us to drive, almost seven hours, way too long!
So my mom would like us to find something that is more between the two of us. The only place I could think of is Peoria. Does anyone where to stay in Peoria, or where to go?
Or are there other places that are in between that we should be looking at?
Re: What is in between Chicago and St. Louis?
Peoria, Bloomington, and Springfield are the in between options.
Peoria and Bloomington are 30mins apart so you could stay in Bloomington and easily see Peoria too.
If you do stay in Bloomington or Peoria here are some suggestions of restaurants, etc. Most have websites you can google for.

I live in Springfield. If you are interested in history, there are a decent amount of places to check out. The Old Capital, Lincoln Law Offices, Abe Lincoln Museum, Lincoln Tomb, Lincolns Home, basically all things Lincoln. There are war monuments and you could also try New Salem which is an old town with trails and shops. Dana Thomas House is an early work of Frank Lloyd Wright. Almost everything is free or asks for a donation.
There is an amusement park on the South end of the city called Knights Action Park. It has water slides, mini golf, etc, great for kids. There is a mall but it is nothing special. My favorite restaurants are Jimmy Ohs, Sebastians, and Tuscany. Darcy's Pint has famous horseshoes, great for lunch.
It's not directly on the way, but don't forget about Indianapolis. It's a great city, and there is something there for everyone. It's only about a 3.5 hour drive from Chicago, it may be a little further for you St. Louis folks.
