Where did you come from?

I have discovered that many people living in LA aren't actually from LA, myself included.  Where did you all come from and how did you end up in LA?  If you were born and raised here, what was it like and do you think you'll ever leave?

Moi, I'm from Maine.  I moved here because my DH took a job.

Re: Where did you come from?

  • I was born and raised here.  Went to Santa Monica High School, and currently I live less than ten miles from my childhood home.  This is after spending 4 years in MA, a year in NYC, and 9 years in MI after I graduated high school.  I thought I would never come back here, but Mr. Insomniac got a job here, so here I am.

It was great to be raised here.  Lots of things to do as a kid, I got a great education... I still flirt about leaving this city, as I don't really have a desire to spend $900k on a starter home.   But then again, I get to eat at some of the best restaurants in the country, get to see things like the entire Wagnerian Ring cycle, and so I always change my tune.

  • I was born and raised in San Diego, so not too far : )  But I've been here in LA for 10 years.  Mostly in BH and now we live in west hollywood.  Though we are thinking of moving to the valley.  I have done a ton (like 100,000 miles a year) of traveling, but never lived anywhere else.

Someday we may move to San Diego, but not anytime in the near future.

  • I was born and raised in LA and have never lived anywhere else. I would consider moving if it was a good job opportunity for DH or myself. I love living here though, we have so much to do and see, and we can go to the beach, or camping or the mountains at any given time. I would love to travel and see more of the country though.

  • Hola! I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. When I got married I moved to the Southbay area, not too far from where I was raised, and I love it. My mom loved the S/B area too so we always went shopping at the Manhattan Village mall and went to all the different restaurants in the S/B area. My mom working in Downtown LA so I got to venture out there too and must say I'm a S/B girl all the way!!! I couldn't ask for more! The people are great, the weather is always beautiful and there is always something to do here. I've lived in the Valley and Palmdale with my father and even visited the Downey/Bellflower/Paramount area with my aunt quite frequently. I also have family who live in Cerritos, Pomona, San Diego...all over. If you want to relax and see the best of the S/B area you must visit the Terranea Resort in Palos Verdes. Absolutely amazing!!! Take care~

  • East coast, originally - Connecticut and NY for most of my life.  After film school in NY, I moved out here and suddenly 12 years have gone by!

We used to go camping in Maine - I love how peaceful and quiet it is up there!

  • Born and raised in SFV. I went away to college and came back anyway. I live only 20 mins from where I grew up. LA is just home to me and I have no good reasons to move away (unless we did something crazy like move to Europe!!)
  • Born and raised in Boston (both DH and I).  Moved out here two years ago for him to attend grad school and we'll be here for at least another 5 years until he finishes school.  Then who knows where we'll end up!

But for now we're enjoying the downtown Culver City area and about to move to Century City.

  • I was also born and raised in Boston!  Been here for...omg it's been 8 years!  I visited a college friend who moved out here and decided I wanted the change.
