I teach in a summer Chinese ESL program. We get a group of Chinese teenagers who come for 3 weeks to better their English and learn more about our culture. While here they stay with host families.
I blew it on a host family I was supposed to contact and now they're hosting with a different organization. Normally I'm not on the recruitment side of things, but since I was supposed to get everything situated with this family and didn't do it in time I'm trying to help out by finding a replacement. Students are generally in the 14-16 year old range and have decent English skills. Host family requirements are pretty simple - arrange transportation for them to get to/from school each day (class will be held in Tigard near the intersection of Gaarde and 99W), provide a room with a bed (they can share with an American child of the same gender) and provide 3 meals a day.
It's a pretty amazing experience and a great first step into hosting an exchange student. The kids are super polite and they LOVE families with young children as it's the only sibling most of them ever have. The girls especially are simply enamored with babies. If you or someone you know would be interested in having a Chinese student live with you from July 14-Aug 3, please let me know.
Re: I need help in the Tigardish area
Jen, if you guys would be interested in the future, send me your name and info and I can pass it on to our host family coordinator. They'd contact you down the road when we have kids coming in.

Turns out we're not nearly as desperate as I was led to believe. We only have 2 students left to place, and China says they have to be placed together, and 3 weeks to find a family. I hate it when people exaggerate and make me look like an idiot!
