4th of July BBQ

I'm looking for a 4th of July themed dessert that I can have at my BBQ. Anyone have any good ideas of something that is not too complicated to make?

Re: 4th of July BBQ

  • Ive seen a giant sugar cookie, covered in creme cheese frosting and then decorated with blue berries and strawberries/raspberries to look like the american flag....

...or i've seen these jello cups, but they'd be a little more difficult for an outdoor party because theyd need to be chilled... use red jello alternated with cool whip in a clear cup to create stripes and then chill.... sprinkle with blueberries for a topping...

ta-da!! yay fourth of july!! :)

  • What's "too complicated"?  I make a raspberry-blueberry pie with stars cut out of the top crust every year that's a huge hit.

If there are kids, I've seen rice krispie treats decorated with red and blue mini M&Ms.

Star shaped sugar cookies with colored sugar.

Pound cake with blueberry sauce and/or whipped cream.

  • marthastewart.com has a great recipe for a 4th of july shortcake that is delicious and beautiful.  it's made in 2 rounds instead of individuals, and has you cut stars out of the top with a cookie cutter so the strawberries and blueberries spill out the top and it is assembled like a cake.

  • Take a 9 x 13 pan. layer those ice cream sandwiches on the bottom, drizzle, chocolate syrup and caramel on that. Spread some cool whip on that. Repeat. Freeze for 2-3 hours before serving. It's cost-efficient, delicious and easy to make!

  • How about cupcakes.  Take a vanilla cake mix and mix as directed.  Separate batter into thirds and color one bowl with red and the other with blue.  Take 1-2 TBS of red and put in cupcake liner, then follow with 1-2 TBS of white, and repeat with blue.  Bake as directed.  When cool, frost with white frosting of choice and add some fresh berries (blueberry/rasp or strawberry) or festive sprinkles.
  • Last year I make Kraft's "Wave Your Flag" cheesecake (on their website) - sorry I can't do the clicky thing) - and decorated it with strawberries and blueberries in the shape of a Peace sign.  it was a big hit.

My wish for patriotic holidays is to bring our troops home!
