Gardening with limited yard space

My SO and I live in a suburban rowhouse; but have a decent patch of grass/yard out front.  I'd like to the make the most of it and get some planting done this season.  Any ideas of what to plant to get the most bang for our limited spatial buck?

Re: Gardening with limited yard space

  • I'm assuming you're talking about edible gardening.

You should check out the book Square Foot Gardening...it's about intensive growing.

Def. consider climbing things to use all your space: horizontal & vertical.

Overall, I have no idea where you are which would dictate on what you can plant now.

  • You can grow about anything in containers as you don't really need a yard.  You may want to throw some cucumber seeds into the ground as they'll sprout in no time.  If you're thinking of growing other vegetables, I would advise you to get the transplants and plant them but this all depends on your area.  If it's too late to grow vegetables, you can get some pretty annuals or wait till the fall to plant bulbs for next year.
