Bridal Shower Brunch - Dessert Ideas??

I am having a bridal shower brunch this weekend and I don't know if I should do a dessert and if so what should I have, any thoughts or suggestions?

How many people do you expect? Will you be making the dessert or buying it?
  • I have 20 people coming, including 4 children.  I am planning to buy something as I am not Betty Crocker.

  • I would have something.  Most people will say fruit, but that is not dessert to me.  Some petit fors, a trifle, cupcakes, something would be nice.
  • I don't think of fruit as a dessert either.  I'm planning to do fruit, but I also want to do a dessert.  A trifle is a good idea, I have a footed bowl which I never get to use, and I have a good trifle recipe from Pampered Chef.  Thanks for the idea.

My vote would be for for this: http://goodthingscatered.blogspot.com/2008/03/strawberry-genoise-cake.html

A good bakery should be able to make that for you.  They may not know it by that name though, so you basically want to ask for white cake with strawberries and whipped cream frosting and filling. Adding peaches is a nice touch too.

I got that for my husband's graduation party and even though people were already stuffed, they had gone back for seconds on that cake.

I would also serve fruit salad.

If that's too fruit heavy, then maybe do chocolate cupcakes and fruit salad.

Oh yeah, trifle is a great suggestion. I love the one with cake, pudding, whipped cream and toffee bits. Mmmm.

  • If you do the trifle route I'd also suggest some little chocolatey bite- a small candy or even just a bowl of hershey's kisses.  I like a little chocolate bite.

  • My favorite brunch dessert is chocolate dipped strawberries or mini eclairs -- I prefer something "bite sized" to an actual serving of a dessert item (like cake or even a trifle).

  • I would consider assorted muffins, danishes, pastries, coffee cake, etc. as "dessert" at a brunch shower.

    HTH.

  • We had petit fours at my baby shower brunch last summer. I thought they were perfect!

These are so cute. (scroll down)  We ordered them from this bakery.
