I'm going to New York on Thursday...HELP!

Im super excitied to go but I was reading on our hotel (Waldorf Astoria) website they have a dress code. I have never heard of a hotel having a dress code. Here is what the website says:

T-shirts, tank tops, faded jeans, cut-offs, and casual hats are not permitted in the Main Lobby, Park Avenue Lobby, restaurants, or public areas of the hotel. While name badges may be worn by conference attendees in private conference rooms, we request that name badges be removed in the public areas of the hotel.

Dress attire for Bull and Bear is elegant casual.
Dress attire for Oscar's is casual.
Dress attire for Inagiku is smart casual.
Dress attire for Sir Harry's is smart casual.
Dress attire for Cocktail Terrace smart casual.

I don't think we are going to be hanging out at the hotel but we might grab a drink or something. Do you think they would give us crap just walking around? The reason why we are going to go to NYC is to go to a football and baseball game. We are going to be dressed casual those days. Should I call and ask them to exlpain?

Re: I'm going to New York on Thursday...HELP!

  • I used to work at Waldorf a few weeks out of the year.  Yes, they will give you crap if you do not follow the dress code and if you plan to go to restaurants or lounges.  But if you're just walking in an out of the hotel, they won't bother you.
  • OH thank you thank you for answering  this..I have one more question. What do they consider smart casual?
  • It's another way of them saying business casual. Ladies can wear a skirt or slacks with blouse, but don't necessarily have to wear the jacket.  The same goes for guys. Nice slacks, buttoned shirt, but don't have to wear a tie or jacket.
