I found a cute lost doggie!

Yesterday was sasha' birthday and we were on her "birthday" walk, when this little guy came running up to us.   He was super cute.  I kept walking and sasha just stopped and wouldn't budge.  She kept looking at me and then to him.

Then when I took a closer look I noticed he had 1/2 of his leash attached to him.  It's one of those retractable leashes and the cord was severed.

I picked him up and carried him home (he was only 9-10 pounds).  Sasha wouldn't have it any other way.

When I got home, I told DH that sasha found her bday present and then we came in and saw him.

SAsha had the biggest smile on her face.  The two of them played in the backyard together.  He was so tiny next to her, but she was really gentle with him and very sweet to him.

We let him sleep outside with pillows and water and food.

This morning I took him to the closest vet and he has no microchip.  So no microchip or ID.

I then called Sasha's cage-free doggie day care to see if they had suggestions.  I talked to the owner and she said to take him to the animal shelter.  There's a no-kill one and then one that does kill them.  The problem is that the location of where we found him was in the  zone of the not so good animal shelter.

So we took him to the good one, and the lady there told us we have to take him to the right shelter, but then we told her we found him close to this shelter.
I think she could tell we were lying.

I understand its important to take them to the right shelter so they can be found.  But if someone really lost their pet, wouldn't they look at all the shelters?  Since he has NO id and NO microchip, the chances of him being found are not so good.  I think if the owner really wants to find him, they'll call all the shelters in the city, then he'll get found!

We're going to put up towns of fliers around our neighborhood tonight to hopefully help him find his real owner.

I should also add that we were going to just keep him for a few days while we put up fliers, but he has a nasty cough, and seemed sick and is also limping a bit.  So i thought that getting him medical attention was also important.

Anyway, the owner of sasha's daycamp also takes in rescues that get to live at the facility and play all day with the day campers and she tries to get them adopted.  The owner already agreed to take him in!   So now if the owner doesn't find him, I know he'll be very very well taken care of, and sasha can visit him too.

I've had a crazy last 24 hours with all this excitement.  I cried when we left him at the pound (which also alarmed the animal shelter lady) I think she thought i was giving up my own dog.  lol!

DH said not to worry, he's super cute and if he doesn't find a new family, I've already found him a really good home.

I have no idea how you ladies do this!

I'd have a whole house full of dogs and cats.  I only knew him for a day and I already couldn't leave him at the shelter.

Re: I found a cute lost doggie!

  • Aw T!  You have a heart of GOLD!  It was great that you took him in to care for him and check into ways of reuniting him with his owner.  I hope they are reunited!  If you have updates, please keep us posted!

    XOXOXO

  • Poor little guy! I hope he finds his way home soon.

  • thanks me too!

I can't stop thinking about him.  I want to go get him out of the pound.

Dh said no cuz he's too little for sasha, and it will stress out nala.

Its funny how i get so attached to things so quickly.

I really hope he finds a good home.

I dont think he'll find his home because he has absolutely no ID.

I reallly wish people would microchip their pets.  if they can't do that, then get a 5 dollar name tag at petco.

    Poor little guy.

I have his ID number for the shelter.  Once they put up his picture, I"ll show it to you guys!
