need suggestions on places for BM dresses

So I have a friend in Boston who needs to look for BM dresses for the wedding she is in(she is the MOH). I live in RI and have no clue of places for her to go. Any suggestions? TIA

Re: need suggestions on places for BM dresses

  • Is she the only BM?  Is she looking for bridal salon-type places or just stores where she can buy a wedding-y dress?

  • I got mine at Marry and Tux in Nashua ... although that may be too far for you.
  • There is a whole wedding party so it is not just for her. She lives in boston but is clueless on where to look. She is the MOH so she has been put in charge of this and asked for my help since I am married and love weddings. So any place in the boston area will work for her. I am not in the wedding. Thanks!
  • Aria is right in the city on Newbury Street. I almost went with them but the dresses weren't formal enough. However, there are high end bridal shops on Newbury as well that may carry BM dresses. I ended up getting BM dresses for my wedding at Daal's (a tiny shop) in Haverill, MA (a 45 minute drive) from Boston. There are also David's Bridal in a few surrounding towns from Boston. She should look online for dresses she likes, then find participating retailers.

  • Ah, now I see.  I didn't understand why she needed to look at BM dresses in person unless she was buying one just for herself.

I agree with pp, I did all my BM dress research online and then looked up local retailers to check them out.  I'd recommend she do the same to get the widest selection.  That said, there are so many options it can get a little overwhelming online so maybe you could point her to a designer or two to get her started.  I like Aria and Boston is one of the few cities where there's an actual showroom, but other popular brands if memory serves are Dessy, After Six, BariJay, Bill Levkoff...lots more that I'm forgetting.

She could also do the fashion-friendly thing and check out regular old retail stores for dresses that might work.  JCrew, Ann Taylor, and Anthropologie are some stores that often carry wedding-appropriate attire.

  • My girls wore Alfred Angelo and there are a bunch of stores around the Boston area that carry AA.

  • La Sposa Bridal in Newton is wonderful and the owner is a sassy little thing who cracks me up everytime I went in there!

  • Ditto Mrs C on the Alfred Angelo- All my girls wore them, and I'm MOH in a wedding this August where all the girls are wearing them.  They have so many different styles to suit your needs, and a ton of colors to choose from.  I'd take a look at their website, and call local stores to take a look at any specific style you have an interest in.

  • I went with Aria on Newbury St.  I liked the idea of having the girls all pick a style that was flattering on them but having the same material. Obviously you could do the same dresses also, but they had a nice selection of styles.

  • There is Chantilly Place in Lowell. They have great gowns. And there are two places in Andover, Christina's Inc. and Abbey Bridal Shoppe :)

  • I used Allegria in Belmont.  I had a great experience and loved the dresses.  I also really liked Priscilla of Boston, right on Newbury St.

    ...hello out there!
