New Screen Name

Hi Ladies-

This is FutureMrsLRAl....., I have a new screen name.  I started posting on the military nesties board and they are very sensitive to putting personal info on the web, so I created a SN without our last name in it.

  • Well, I totally understand, there are certain rules that you have to live by in the military world.  I just never thought about it because our last name is such a common name, but if I were to post something about his job, especially since he in Intel, and some terrorist saw that and his name it could put him in danger.  It is a slim chance but you never want to take that risk.

  • I hate to be a jerk here, but my brother is in Afghanistan so this is a very sensitive issue to me.

In this thread you told us both you and your husband's last name and what your husband does for a living. You'd be amazed at what I could pull just with that info, using public databases.  You really ought to delete this thread and use a screen name that doesn't have *any* identifiers in it :(

    Freaking terrorists.

  • Allen is my last name as well. I get the personal info thing as well. But...the personal info and military helped me find my biological father two months ago....:) But yeah, scary! Remind me to update the database if you want to.

You are right, you could pull a lot of information with the info I gave, but my husband's legal name is actually not Hugh, so any info you found using that name would not be him.  And according to the Army, that is not his name and they would not even know who that was.  And, my legal name is not Lyndsey (New Last Name) either, I did not legally change it, I just go by it socially. I though about those things before I posted on here!  But I do appreciate your advice since it is a sensitive subject, and if you think there is something in here that would still identify either of us let me know!

  • Mrs. Destructo- I edited my post to take out our last name.  I realize that I did not use either of our legal names, but JUST IN CASE those damn terriorists can hack my facebook (you never know).  I would rather be safe than sorry!  Please let me know if you see something else though!  I just took all pics out of my bio that could give away our identies too.

    JWare- Thanks :-)

  • Phew - I was nervous I was coming off as a big, fat jerk. It looks good to me, but I'm not an expert (yet). This is all kinda new to me. And so scary!
