Hey ladies... I've never posted on the board before... and I hope you guys can help. I've tried looking through the pages and didn't find anything- But I was wondering if you have any lawn mower recommendations.
I wanted to get a Reel Mower- but DH says that's a big negative. He wants just a basic push mower.
TIA for any help
Re: Lawn Mowers
My MIL has been using the same Honda push mower for like 15 years or something crazy like that and she loves it. She can start it on her own on the first pull everytime and they have done very little maintenance on it. So if you're going push I would recommend that.
If you're thinking about riders, my husband loves his Husquvarna, but we've only had it for 3 months so I can't really speak to it's reliability, but it had some of the consistently best reviews we could find.
I made DH buy a reel mower last year because I wanted to do my part for the planet. Lemme tell you this: they got rid of reel mowers two generations ago for a reason. They're AWFUL! We spent like $225 on a top of the line one. Forget it. Terrible.
Reel mowers are only suitable for perfectly level terrain with fine-bladed grass...ie, a golf course. Walk on your yard barefoot - little dips? some weeds that grow faster than grass? trees overhead that might drop little twigs or acorns? A reel mower is completely incapable of handling any of those.
DH loves his Briggs and Stratton mower (either from HD or Lowe's). Self-propulsion is so important - don't buy one without.

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
We have a reel mower. It was $99 at Lowes and we love it. Yeah, sometimes we need to recut places where the ground is uneven, but so what?!
We've saved a ton on gas!
Also, I will agree that you do have to pull twigs out of it and if you have a large yard, it may be too much. We have a rather small yard and it is not all flat, but our mower works fine.
