AF question (warning: TMI)
Howdy.
I am infamous for not taking my BCP regularly, I ALWAYS forget. And when I finally remember to take it again, I start bleeding down there.
Does anyone have the slightest clue as to why this happens?
Sorry if anyone was grossed out by this lovely little factoid.
Re: AF question (warning: TMI)
It's because the pill supresses the formation of the uterine lining. When you don't take it, your uterus starts growing the lining. When you take the pill again the hormones signal your uterus to shed the lining.
Since you keep forgetting you might want to try out the Nuva Ring. I used it for years and years and LOVED it. It is the best BC I've ever used. I'd be on it now but I can't take hormonal birth control because of a medical issue (that really has no impact on my life in any way except I can't take BCP any more)
Oh wow, thank you for the info. That is kind of scary...
I will definitely look into the Nuva Ring, thank you for the rec. I wish I could just use the fertility awareness method, b/c I'm always concerned about being infertile when we are finally ready to TTC.

I agree! Pull out method all the way...its the only way to go. Ask Ryder.
*That sounds more dirty that I thought it would...Ry doesn't use the method...he was conceived by the method."

Hormonal BC sucks.
FAM and condoms rock!
LMAO! I almost spit my beverage out onto my leyboard!

Jaye, sweet Jaye, could you summarize the FAM? I'm not sure I fully understand it/how to do it.

It's really not that complicated. I did read the book though - and I highly recommend it - just the pictures alone are worth it
Anyways. Your basal temperature fluctuates throughout the month based on your cycle. So does your cervical mucus. Yummo.
So basically, you take your temp every morning, and check your cervical mucus (the PC term is cervical fluid, but I find it much more amusing to say mucus. I'm mature, I know.) and chart this information.
Once you get going, and can clearly see when you ovulate, in theory - you should be able to know exactly when you can and can't get pregnant (the can times are VERY slim) and can have sex accordingly, using another form of protection if you have sex on your fertile days.
Yes, it's an involved process, and does not work for everyone - but I hate hormonal BC. Hate with a passion, The Patch almost killed me, and BCPs were ruining my life.
So I love this alternative, and we don't mind condoms for the fertile days.
I just ordered TCOYF from Amazon, the library rental was not enough time to read that encyclopedia!
FAM sounds like the way to go. Thanks Jaye

LOL I would have let you borrow mine!
Big fan of FAM here, too! Though I did go back on BCPs after my divorce because I was having very painful periods and mitteschirtz (pain during ovulation) while not on them.
Anyway, I loved FAM. I got so in tuned with my body I actually stopped temping after a while and just went off my body's signs. I was also pretty regular and always Od between Cycle Day 15 and Cycle Day 17, so I just avoided having sex between Cycle Day 13 and Cycle Day 19. And then I avoided it completely and that really made FAM easy! Haha!
And then when you want to get pregnant it's so helpful to know your cycle already and maybe you'll even get lucky on the first try because you know when to do it.
Ahh crap. Lol.

What worked for me was the same thing that worked to remember to take my pill- I put the thermometer on top of my alarm clock Off button. Every time I went to reach for it I had to grab and move the thermometer first. Then I'd already have it in my hand halfway in my mouth by the time I turned the alarm off. Also if you have a REALLY tough time with it, but are one of those people who can just go back to sleep if woken up in the middle of the night you can set an alarm for 4AM or something. Then wake up, temp, and go back to sleep. The good thermometers save the last 5 temps so you can just check what it was when you wake up.
yep, you really have to take it before you do anything at all, around the same time. if it's the slightest degree off it can screw up your whole chart and getting up and doing something first will raise your temp. look at stacy's ovulation chart, the differences in temp are very minimal
yeah the alarm thing didn't work for me, because i was only working 4 days at that point. if i set my alarm the other days and woke up to do it, the dog thinks it's time to get up and go potty, etc, and by then i wouldn't be able to get back to sleep. i gave it a definite try but it just didn't happen. it was more work than i wanted to mess with anyway, lol
It's always worth a shot. If nothing other than to give you a really close relationship with your body! To be honest, my temping sucks. Like I'll be really good at it for a length of time and then just get sucky. BUT because I'm in tune with the other things I can still tell my fertile times fairly well - and my ovulation window is pretty regular.
I thought the book was fascinating. I've showed it to a few people who have fallen in to fits of laughter when I explain checking your CM.
lol... so when you say check you CM are you up on in there feeling around or are you waiting until you see it when it make an appearance at potty time.
So i just totally realized part of the sounded kiddish lol but i was trying to figure out a way to ask without of being TMI.... haha
LOL it sounds SO gross - but yes, I'm actually checking up in there. On super fertile days that's sometimes not necessary though...
I had no idea where my cervix was or what it was like until that book. Now, it's totally normal.

lol if that is the price i have to pay to not take BCP then so be it! hahahaha
sorry if this is to many questions but you use that diva cup thing right?
Yes ma'am!
