Take the Train or Drive?

I usually post on my month board - but was hoping you ladies could help with a downtown question.  I live in the western burbs and will be heading downtown next week.  We're planning on hitting the Shedd in the morning, then walking around Millennium/State Street/maybe the Sears Tower, depending on the weather, and then to Navy Pier.  What do you think makes the most sense?  There will be at least 6 of us and at most 10..

Re: Take the Train or Drive?

  • I could be totally wrong, but I don't think Shedd and Navy Pier are super accessible by train.  I've always driven when I go to those places (I live in Wicker Park).
  • Well, I think you can get to both of these things by public transportation so I suggest that. Especially because Shedd & Navy Pier are really, really far apart from each other. Very opposite ends of the City. Look into a bus or train.

    Enjoy, I love Shedd!

Opposite ends of the city--are you on crack? Honey, they're 18 blocks apart--that's just over 2 miles--and connected by water taxi.

That said, unless you want to do a hell of a lot of walking (Sears Tower is not on the lake, but the western edge of the Loop) you'll likely be hopping on the bus/train at some time anyway--moving your car would take too much time and be too expensive.

  • Take the train.  There's a bus to the museum and a free trolley that goes to Navy Pier.  Much, much easier than moving your car!

  • It's like $40 to park at Navy Pier.  Take the train!!  And hop on the water trolley for a fun experience (to go from the Shedd to Navy Pier)
  • Buses will take you right to Shedd and Navy Pier unless you want to take th water taxi. The El will get you pretty close to the Sears Tower..... Check out the CTA website for schedules and stops of everything- www.transitchicago.com :)
