What to do

In a week, my 2 younger brothers will be here to stay a week with DH and I.  They are 16 and 12 years old. I'm trying to figure out what we are going to go do.  I know we are going to Schlitterbahn one day, but that's about it.

They have been coming for a week in the summer for the past 5 years so for the most part I think we have done the typical Austin-y things.  Plus they are teenagers now so that changes things, haha!

Ideas?

Re: What to do

  • tubing down the comal? farmers markets?

don't boys that age just want to sleep and eat?  sorry I don't have more ideas.  My sister is coming into town tonight and I don't even know what to do with her for a weekend!

  • what about going somewhere like Dave & Busters? (I can't remember the name of the other place... Main Event?)

    IMAX

    Barton Springs

  • Laser tag, Main event/Dave and Busters/Austin's Park, tubing (good call!).  What about getting out on the lake some how?  Barton springs, deep eddy- they are doing a thing where you can swim in the pool while watch a movie... can't remember which one they're showing though.  6th street during the day? IMAX was another good idea.

  • I find food tours are always popular with out of towners.. the Trailer Park on S 1st for unique variety, Homeslice pizza,Salt Lick, etc.. that might be a better hit next year unless the 12 year old is already a bottomless pit like most teenagers are.:)

    *sniff* I WANT TORCHY'S!!

  • Lots of good ideas from pp!  Kayaks at Town Lake, er Lady Bird Lake, would probably also be fun.
  • Not sure if you're into camping.  I personally hate it in the summer but there are plenty of places in the area.

    Swimming at Krause Springs

    Deep Eddy Pool

Tubing the Comal or for a short 1 hour trip I like to eat lunch on the deck over the water at Texas Land & Cattle in San Marcos, then put in right there and get out by the baseball fields (usually park one car at the beginning and the other at the end.

  • Tell them to go onto Austin360.com or the Chronicle website and see if there are any events coming up that they'd be into. If they choose a couple of things to do, you can fill in the rest of the time with swimming and other easy fun stuff.

Look out of town too - tubing, Enchanted Rock in Fredericksburg, Reimer's Ranch....lots to do!
