Bugs destroying flowerbeds
I just relocated to DH's hometown. The bugs here are unbelievable. MIL started a flower garden last year when he first bought the house. The bugs have completely destroyed anything that flowers. DH doesn't care. His opinion is "bugs need homes too." I get that and certainly don't plan on dousing my flower beds in chemicals. However, if I have chewed up ugly flowers, I'd rather yank them all out and put in something hearty - like bushes or something. Anyone have any ideas as to what I can put on or around the flowers to keep the bugs off? OR hearty AND attractive plants/bushes that will hold up to the nibblers? TIA!
Re: Bugs destroying flowerbeds
I sprinkle cayenne pepper on my flowers. It seems to help with the aphids and the rabbits don't like it either. You can also make it into a spray (just mix it with water) and spray it on your plants too.
Also - marigolds have a scent that some animals and bugs don't like too.
However, nothing has saved my Columbine.
